100 Greatest War Films - Ch4
On Channel 4 now. yeah these list programmes are cheap nonsense, but the film ones are usually better made, and have far better interviewees than the usual tacky rubbish with Vernon Kaye and Jimmy Carr and co.
Don't have a clue what number one will be but I'm hoping Cross of Iron is quite high up! |

2nd half is on tonight.
The two most interesting entries for me were the foreign war films Europa Europa and Come and See (both amazing films). Brought memories flooding back of when I was 12 or 13 and every Sunday night/ Monday morning at around 1am, Channel 4 would show a world cinema film. Now a young adolescent Chrono would tune in week after week hoping for some European onscreen naughtiness. Every so often I would be rewarded by a saucy Pedro Almodovar film or suchlike. But more often than not I'd end up getting drawn into some really fucking intense film from Russia, Eastern Europe or Scandanavia. I'm sure the emotional scars from some of those late night movies still remain! |

Hamburger Hill is one of the most under rated war movies ever. hope it came high in the list.
