From Hell on Ch4
Right, so I'm watching this movie, and I thought it would be a decent flick. I didn't think I'd be disappointed because I know that the book that it is based on is a complete masterpiece and would be completely unfilmable were it to retain its plot, themes and essence.
But, hell, it just seems like a bad movie. The pacing is utterly dreadful, characterisation awful and it's very badly directed. I love Johnny Depp but his accent seems like something from a Fast Show sketch. Worst of all the film has failed to retain any of the humanity of the book, which is completely unforgivable. The film seems like a bloody nonsense to me. Obviously nobody could make a film to match the book, but there's still a ripping yarn *fnar* to be made from it. Most disappointing. So far anyway. Maybe Sir Ian Holm will rescue things. What did others, unpolluted by the mind-altering wonderfulness of the comic book, think of the film? I'd be very interested to know... |

Good film IMO. Depp is always great and not been disappointed by any of his films. Second time I've seen it (although first was a while back!) and enjoyed both times. Off topic but watching pirate of carribean tonight. Parents bought in lots of rum, coconuts etc. Very cheesey but should be a laugh ![]() |

I was SO scared.
I really liked it as a film, the effects weren't a-m-a-z-i-n-g but they weren't that bad, besides effects don't interest me too much.... Fucking scary though, especially because bilbo baggins eyes were all black black black. Johnny depp for king i say. |

I like the Deppsicles on Absinthe.
I had a dream about zombies after and the only thing that remotely frigtened me was, as rosanna has noted prior, the fully black eyes. I got pissed off about the grapes. I'm not sure why. |
