Name of horror film?

Me and my mum are trying to remember the name of a horror we watched a few years back but can't figure it out. I was hoping that somone would know what film i am on about! We can't remember much but here is the clues....
It is based on some kind of alien that wears a long black coat that eats people. It lives underground, in a train station i think.
There is also a man that is a shoe cleaner and he cleans the alien/things shoes and knows what he is. But he keeps quiet because he killed his daughter. We think so anyway. Or that he is afraid he will kill his daughter. But she gets killed eventually. I think her shoes were found at the crime scene.
The shoe cleaner guy notices that the alien things shoes are different from everyone elses.
We also think that there is some kind of experiment that went wrong at the beginning of this film, that creates the plot.
