Michael Moore sued by US soldier

Story here.

The one thing that America has exported to the world which really angers me is the whole litigation culture. I like Michael Moore, not because he's against the war, but the way he puts his message across. He's serious but at the same time his message is accessible because he lays out the facts supporting his argument on the table for all to see. No one says he's the definitive opinion, people are meant to look at other sources and come up with their own opinion. Moore takes a lot of flak for other people's stupidity and I hope he comes through this in one piece.

As for the soldier, why has it taken so long to bring this legal action?

40million pounds!!! For fuck sake, he should be sueing George Bush for making him go to Iraq in the first place. Plus his wife is sueing on top of his claim.
I remember the clip from Fahrenheit 9/11 and from what I remember I thought he was complaining about the pain he was in and not the Bush administration despite the previous clip. I really hope this gets thrown out of court but no doubt he'll get his £40 million due to how easy it is to claim in the US. I cant comprehend how anyone would have the cheek to even as for such an obscene amount and how he can put a price on mental anguish/depression is beyond me.

So you are chuffed that they gave us fast food culture and over-the-top marketting? Within 20 years we will all be like 30 stone neanderthals watching Football v2.0, same as normal but it has Quarters instead of halves to fit more commercials in and painted advertisements on the pitch to detract us from the game.

Yeah, i'm offtopic but I don't think america has given anything positive to the world that we wouldn't have discovered ourselves.

Pride = A massive military to bully smaller nations.
Envy = A space race that saw them beat the russians to the moon almost 40 years ago but nowhere since.
Gluttony = McDonald's?
Lust = Vain and fake looking soaps where everyone is a perfect size 6 waist with massive breasts or a male model.
Greed = Marketting, Corporations, etc..
Wrath = Hiroshima, end a war by killing 1 million innocents. Only after the 2 main enemies of the tri-axis have already surrendered
Sloth = Shite telly that turns the masses into comatose slobs.

Fuck me, I really hate that country, I'd nuke the whole god damned place, but leave Oregon, Washington and Alaska and maybe Hawaii cos they are far enough away from civilization to be polluted.

Uh...

The hiroshma bomb killed about 80 000, where are you pulling a million from? Dresden was the worst bombing raid of the second world war killing about 130 000 civilians in a city completely devoid of defence or military industry, with conventional explosives, mostly from British air forces and was basically a revenge bombing for Coventry after the outcome of the was was pretty much decided anyway.

Except that Japan hadn't surrendered, and due to their culture, it was perfectly reasonable to believe that they wouldn't surrender. Even after two atomic bombs were dropped on Japan, there were still those in Japan that wanted to continue the war.

Invading Japan would have been the more costly option in terms of human lives on both sides.

But the Japanese had already sent terms of surrender to the US through Russia which were ignored. The stickler was the Japanese wanted to keep the emperor, the US refused then after the war left him in.

From wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_...r_the_bombings

Quote:
Others contend that Japan had been trying to surrender for at least two months, but the U.S. refused by insisting on an unconditional surrender. In fact, while several diplomats favored surrender, the leaders of the Japanese military were committed to fighting a "decisive battle" on Kyushu, hoping that they could negotiate better terms for an armistice afterward—all of which the Americans knew from reading decrypted Japanese communications.
Anyhooo....

Thats way off topic. If people want to discuss this in more depth, start a new thread and I'll split these posts off.

------

Although the guy may have a case that his words were taken out of context, the sums he and his wife are claiming are absolutely ludicrous. (these words are probably worth a million to him if he sues me for hurting his feelings or something)

Although he has a tendency to skew some of his "facts".

I repect the fact that Michael Moore does what he can to bring different points of veiw to the public eye...but i loathe the fact he gives the impression that if you dont agree with him then you must be a facist or summat. (yes i know thats going to far, i apologise) And as Jeebus said he does have a tendancy to blurb up his 'facts' at times.

It does seem strange however that the Guardsman has taken so long to sue but i guess it might have been an ongoing legal case for the last yaaaaay many months.
