yeah well...duno how new it is...but...the Alan Moore comic Batman - The Killing Joke (where the Joker kidnaps Commisioner Gordon, tortures and disables Batgirl and reveals what may or may not be his past) is used as inspiration for The Joker in this movie.
That comic was ace!

I havnt seen it yet but there was a picture of what Heath Ledger looks like as The Joker somewere on the net.
