new Star Trek film...

The cast list for the new Star Trek film is almost completed, but the biggest surprise was that of Simon Pegg reportedly winning the role of Scotty. It's caused quite a few feathers to fly amongst the ultra-nerdy trekkies, with some decrying it as 'a joke'. Personally I think it's great - Pegg's inclusion will bring Trek to a whole new audience, which can only be a good thing.

Anyway, also cast are Zachary Quinto (Sylar from Heroes) as Spock and Eric Bana (Troy, Incredible Hulk, Chopper etc.) as the main baddie.

More info here: Trek Movie Report | Star Trek XI news, rumors, info and downloads, but am I the only one who is more than a bit excited?

I'm not really a big Star Trek fan, but this news excites me, and makes me actually want to see the new film.

I'd be interested to see who they cast as McCoy, he's my favourite character from the old series.

I think Simon Pegg's a fairly good choice, I don't see what the problem is with him not being Scottish; wasn't the guy who originally played Scotty Canadian or something?

Im looking forward to it. Im a Star Wars geek but i like the idea of this film and to be honest, most of the Trek film are pretty good....although i doubt it will hold a place next to Wrath of Khan which is just a damn bloody great movie.

Wooooo for Pegg though!

Same. Impressive cast and should be worth seeing, trekkie or not.

By the way, if I recall Simon Pegg had a fairly "ordinary" role in MI3 so who knows?

Karl Urban

It's this guy. Not to be confused with Keith Urban.
