In Bruges
Nae bad likes, a lot darker than i was expecting in places.
I dislike Colin Farrell a little bit less after seeing this. The lad from Braveheart was grand too. |

I really loved this movie. It's possibly the only good thing Farrell has been a part of since his proper debut Tigerland and Irish indie flick Intermission.
Gleeson is a talented actor who's been doing Irish indie films for years, my fave being the b/w shot 'The General'. Kevin Spacey remade it as 'Ordinary Decent Criminal' but it wasn't as good. That Gleeson came away from the stench of MI:II with any credit was an achievement in itself. In Bruges is a character driven drama/bleak comedy which will delight some but disappoint others if you were misled by the poster of three guys with guns and the 'film about hitmen' description. Wanted, this ain't. I recommend it. |

This really is a class film. Dark humour and lots of it - and reasonably politically incorrect. Without wanting to ruin it for people, the recurring appearances by the racist character are particularly funny.

'The General' was his nickname, hence the first movie's title, and Gleeson is almost Day Lewis-esque in getting into the character of one of Dublin's most vicious and warped minded criminals. Total gem of a movie.
You have to be really wary of how films are marketed now because often they don't match the type of film they are. 'Juno' was promoted in the UK as being like 'Knocked-Up' which was unbelievably lazy! |

"Theres a war coming!"
This is one of the best films ive seen in a long long time. Also the first film to make me laugh during the opening credits. Its a subtle little bit where 'Ray' is setting the scene and he asks outloud where brugge is. Its the quiet little reply after that had me in stitches. "its in Belgium". Those two characters play so well off each other and the interaction between the two main characters and 'Harry' is sublime. Its stylish, its funny and its just so well shot. Has anyone seen the compilation of swear words in the bonus section of the dvd? Funny as fuck! |
