Into The Wild
![]() Anyone seen this? I thought it was pretty god damn amazing. It's a film based on the book of the true story of Christopher McCandless aka Alexander Supertramp, an American wanderer who left behind his white suburbia, American middle class life and literally went 'Into The Wild' meeting tonnes of people on the way, affecting their life at the same time. He reached his dream of living off the land in Alaska but I won't tell you anymore than that. It's pretty inspiring in a way so check it out. |

If you're impatient or don't want to see the film, read his wikipedia entry, it gives you an overview of his story. Major spoilers though, obviously.

![]() You kind of have to swallow a pill when you're watching it if you're a little cynical. The justification his sister gives at point for WHY he is doing it is a little "hey y'all don't know what it's like being male middle class and white" in a way. People in Scotland (and many other countries) get brought up with much worse backgrounds and get on with it. However his outlook on life is just incredible and it's hard to be too critical of the whole thing. Myself, I can certainly empathise with a character who is a bit non-plussed with society in general so I was probably more susceptible to taking in the film more than someone who isn't but if you are, it's definitely your bag. And on the bare surface, it's a pretty good movie and that like. Last edited by Johnny5 : 4th July 2008 at 01:16 PM. |

I've often considered (albeit not seriously), what it would be like to do that, just completely leave civilization.

When i was watching it with my girlfriend i remember turning round and saying "Thats when you become one with yourself" It's true. I think everybody in life should take that epic journey! It takes courage and balls though! |
