Hmmmmmm, looks like your typical comic book movie, the costumes look awful.
Watchmen isn't your typical comic book. It was unique and this doesn't look like it's going to capture any of that. The characterisation is massively deep and that's half the enjoyment. Plus the creators don't want anything to do with it, always a bad sign. Sceptical. It's like if they made a movie of the Sandman series, it'd just suck. Hopefully I am completely wrong and this is great though. Last edited by Johnny5 : 18th July 2008 at 10:58 PM. |

Shot for shot, it looks bang on with the book. I don't think a film of Sandman could be made. It would have to be all CGI, and that would be crap. |

There's been talk of a Sandman movie for years, I'm just glad they haven't made it already because if they'd done it 10 years ago it would've SUCKED.
I think a lot might depend on the reaction to Spielberg's and Jackson's upcoming CGI movies and the quality of them before anyone pushed it into that direction. They're undoubtedly my favourite series of comic book so hopefully if they do it, it's treated with care and attention. Gaiman would probably do the screenplay as well. A film of American Gods would be much cooler, with Guillermo del Toro as director!! |

It does look surprisingly sexy. Thing is, everyone's going to hate it! It's simply not the kind of thing that can really be made into a film that's going to set the multiplexes on fire, while the slightest compromise will annoy fans of the comic. On the plus side, Zack Snyder sounds like he is someone who loves Watchmen, and the fact that he's shooting the Black Freighter stuff for the DVD release is heartening.
I've always thought that Watchmen would make a shit film, but could be turned into a freakin awesome mini series by HBO or someone like that... oh well. |
