Inability to close the gap on the Old Firm
What is it with teams getting so close to closing the gap on the Old Firm and then falling back just when they are within touching distance. Rangers and Celtic have been far from formidable this season. Celtic taking just 1 point from their last 6 for example and when United and Motherwell looked to be closing the gap they go and screw up. United falling to Gretna, who have only won two games all season both of which were against United. Motherwell who humped Aberdeen the other week only to go out today and get humped by Falkirk. And the biggest disappointment so far as been Hearts. After finishing second in the league the other season they've been no where near the form they should be at.
Despite all that though it's good to see the other teams closing the gap somewhat on the big spending Old Firm sides... proving that spending stupid money on B-list players isn't always the best avenue for success.

I've been thinking about that lately - Hibs were right up there at the beginning of the season, then United had a go, now Motherwell are making a good job of cocking up a golden opportunity. They might have been unlucky against Rangers today but you don't catch the Old Firm by losing 3-0 at home to Falkirk.

I think there is possibly an 8 point gap between second and third if Rangers win their games in hand.
The same applies to Dundee. We could have gone two points clear yesterday had we defeated third from bottom Queen of the South... but no. Lyle had to get sent off in the first 5 minutes. We gained the lead but lost 2-1. Terrible.

The problem is that other teams can get one-off results against the OF during a season but they'll lose far more points to other teams. Just the way it is i'm afraid.
Actually, being a Rangers man, i hope it stays that way ![]() |

Motherwell have looked strong, they were good against an poor Rangers side yesterday, 3-1 was a pretty lucky result for us.
Cousin was also heavily heckled even with his goal throughout the game which was strange in what was a decent enough game for him. |

Edit: Besides, he's just scored a peach against Hibs. Didn't look like much of a cunt when he did that. Last edited by gord : 29th December 2007 at 01:51 PM. |

I don't actually think Cousin is much better than Boyd, just a bit more experienced and maybe a bit stronger than Boyd, whicjh is the reason he is getting a game over young Kris.

What is all the fuss with Bobo Balde just now? He seems to be getting a lot of stick at the moment. I thought he's just come back from 8 months out injured or something. Surely didn't have a bad game today did he?

Cousin is getting knocked because as someone said earlier, people are stupid.
There was some booing for him at Ibrox forthe Motherwell game but every player gets it. Barry Ferguson has been getting stick from some folk that sit around me. They really are fickle and all is forgotten when the next goal for them happens. It was the same with Charlie Adam before his goal in the Ibrox game against Stuttgart. Scored a peach and became a hero. I would prefer Boydy up front instead of Cousin but the big guy has scored 2 on the bounce and looked decent against Hibs so give him a shot against Celtic and see if he is up for it. Whatever is good for the team is good for me. |
