Breaking News: Old Firm game postponed...

as a mark of respect to Phil O Donnell.

Good decision for me. Life is bigger than football and this is the wisest thing that can be done.

I heard Gordon Strachan earlier saying it should be postponed but dont know the exact context of it as it was a snippet of an interview.

Anyways, discuss.

Can't believe the SPL havn't cancelled the whole card and it took the request of both the clubs to do it.

I can think of players on both sides who have played for Motherwell and knew Phil.
Coaches as well, who worked with him in the nineties.

The way it is going I would not be shocked to see other clubs postpone their games.

Gretna and Motherwell games gave been postponed and Celtic v Rangers is now postponed so thats 3 outta 6. Would make sense for the other teams to now follow suit.

hmm,
it's a nice tribute but i think surely the best way to honor a footballer would be to crack on with the games in his memory. I know it's sudden and the team are gonna have their heads in their cracks for abit but surely if it were possible to ask him now what he would prefer, im sure Phil would tell the boys to get cracking and do him proud.

Your right, though life is more important than football, but football was his life. He was one of the Lucky few who got to live out his childhood dreams. Im sure playing in his honor would have been just as fitting a tribute.

It's a tough one. On one hand you can cancel a game as a mark of respect but at the same time you could go ahead and play but have a minutes applause instead. What is the fitting tribute? I've always thought the minutes applause was the better way because there is something really powerful about that. Standing in the crowd applauding one of the good guys of the game. Puts the hair on my neck on end.

In my opinion the only game that should be off is the motherwell one, the rest should have had a minutes silence

When was the Gretna game due to be played? I wonder if the Old Firm game was granted permission to be postponed because Celtic was a former club of Phil.

I think it's quite understandable for the players to want to the game postponed. Wasn't Wilkie one of the first over after O'Donnell collapsed? Seems a pretty legitimate call to me.

Also, I wonder if the telly has any involvement? Will they show one of the games that isn't postponed instead of the Old Firm game?

Sky will show the rescheduled game I think and fill the vacant slot with either replay of a classic game or some sort of footie collage. I'm not sure.
