part of the reason Rangers have a backlog is due to Motherwell cancelling some games due to Phil O Donnell and the pitch being unplayable (ironically the Celtic match being re-arranged three times helped)

Also part of the reason is Rangers progressing in cup competitions along with facing replays against lower division teams and moving an SPL game against Gretna to suit them playing Lyon..

There's no way around it, the season shouldn't be extended. It's not fair on the other teams or their fans who lose out financially.
It may also mean some players are unavailable as Euro 2008 teams call up their players before the Thursday.

It's not even about Rangers getting an advantage, because they don't. It's just simply shite. I don't know why you're defending it when even your club isn't.

People already had travel arrangements in place for the Sunday.
People may not be able to even make the game due to work arrangements.

There's two shitty reasons for starters!

i dont know anyone who pre-books travelling that far in advance. most supporters clubs who run buses would be able to rebook them without any cost, individuals who buy train tickets can have them exchanged (normally without any fee)

so if ANY game is called off on a saturday, the replayed game HAS to be on a Saturday? what about the fans who are unable to get to a midweek game then?

any points raised are as equally valid mid-season as at the end of the season, so are you going to now say no game should be re-arranged?

Not without good reason, no..

1. Asking to have the Gretna game rescheduled. Had they just played Gretna then the cancelled Celtic-Rangers game could have been played on the date used on for this rescheduled Gretna game, ultimately allowing Rangers to play either St Mirren or Motherwell last Wednesday.

2. Failing to Beat a lowly Partick Thistle side at home in the Cup after ‘Walter’ fielded a weakened team hoping they would win. Their choice and again a replay had to be arranged taking up another date. ‘Walters’ gamble did not pay off.

3. Failing to beat Hibs in the first leg of the Scottish cup again resulted in a replay that took up another date that could have been used for one of the cancelled SPL games.

4. Not purchasing a suitable number of players to increase the squad to a size that can cope with the pressures of playing in all 4 fronts. For a club like Rangers not good enough. Also by not rotating this squad adequately and burning out his top players ‘Walter’ has put all his eggs in the one basket. The Man Utd's. Liverpool's and Barcelona's of this world know what games/cups take priority over others. ‘Walter’ on the other hand apparently does not.

5. Other than the Celtic-Rangers title chase we also have the situation where three clubs are fighting for 3rd place and entry to Europe next year. By extending the League one or more of these teams may in effect be also handed an advantage and could cause even further problems in rescheduling their matches.

Non-Rangers. But still issues that I hope will be addressed all the same:

6. Both Celtic and St Mirren have voiced concerns over an extension as both teams look to travel abroad immediately after the final game of the season. It would be unfair and unworkable that a teams preparation for next season is hampered because of indecision by the SPL/SFA.

7. Again our support and in particular those who travel from Ireland and far-afield have yet again been inconvenienced by the SPL's incompetence. As we all know this hasn't been the best of seasons for all our fans but our fans who pre-book travel and accommodation will I'm sure to some degree be left out of pocket with this decision.

I still don't know why you're defending it, it holds no advantage to you whatsoever. It is in fact a ridiculous decision lambasted by every right minded football fan in the country! It creates a stupid precedent for teams in future seasons.
What are your positive points for the decision? How does it help football in this country?

Remember Celtic asked for the second Old Firm game of the season to be postponed. For a non-footballing reason mind you, but it was still their request.

2, 3, 4. Your fourth point seems to contradict points two and three, you can't criticise Walter for putting out a weakened team against lower division opposition in the Cup thus forcing a replay then go on to say that he hasn't prioritised and hasn't rotated his players. That just doesn't make sense.

Anyway it seems the SPL were faced between upsetting Rangers or upsetting the rest of the SPL so they compromised and just upset everyone. I can't see Gers making the UEFA Cup final so that'll give them a bit of breathing room. Ultimately whatever happens it's going to be a struggle to fit in the remaining games, and as for Johnny's point about fans already having made travel plans, well I watched Celtic play Gretna at Livingston and it would appear there were only about seventeen Celtic fans there so I can't see it being a problem

Pretty sure that's cause it was re-scheduled and then moved at the last minute though, proving my point?

It was Livingston! As opposed to Huntly or Dingwall or somewhere like that.

1. Lets face it, when that was rescheduled, i doubt most people associated with Rangers expected European football this late in the season.

2/3. Are you suggesting Hibs/Partick should have laid down for Rangers to avoid the fixture backlog? note, the replays against both sides were also won with weakened sides.

4. Rangers did weaken the team for the cups, we put priority in the league and UEFA, therefore points 2 and 3 are now invalid.

5. What advantage would that be then?

6. Celtic are wanting to go on a commercial friendlies spree, before the post-season break. I fail to see what thats got to do with next season. I forget who, but someone at Celtic was on the radio saying how they were open to fixture flexability under the right circumstances. Is being a bigger brand in Japan more important than the domestic league?

St Mirren i believe are on a team bonding holiday, not exactly set in stone and unmoveable is it?

7. Its not the SPL's fault where people live, Rangers have fans travelling from Northern Ireland too. what exactly is your point? its not JUST Celtic fans who have to travel, if they choose to follow a team in another country, then im sure they accept its not going to be cheap.

and the point i would say is best for it, would be to have a competition that has its integrity left at the end of it. look at how Chelsea complained at playing on a Monday and Thursday and then Tuesday, yet Rangers are expected to play FOUR games in that space, would you say thats fair?

why should a team be punished for being successful?

No-one's saying they should be punished... Nothing should happen, nada. Games should be re-scheduled within the season boundaries as fair as they can

and if they cant be done in a fair way?

also, playing a first team squad in a cup doesnt mean you will win does it?

Hearts 2-0, Aberdeen 1-0. both at Parkhead.
