The Top 6 Run-in

How good is it this year? Every team is still fighting for something and every game is massive.

Celtic need to win both of their remaining games and hope Rangers draw or lose.. either is as good as each other at the moment. A win against Hibs next week will make Rangers work for the title down to the Bhoys last game against United at Tannadice, which is promising to be one half of a last day title decider.

Clydesdale Bank Premier League
Dundee Utd v Celtic, 19:45

----------------------------

Rangers can't drop any more points otherwise the title is back in Celtic's own hands realistically, due to goal difference. The draw at Hibs blew the race wide open and fixture congestion and injuries are a worry for the side as after the UEFA final they play 3 games within 5 days. Their gauntlet of games starts in two days at home to Motherwell.

Clydesdale Bank Premier League
Aberdeen v Rangers, 19:45

----------------------------

Motherwell are in the strongest position to qualify for Europe having games in hand and being a point ahead of Hibs and United and three ahead of Aberdeen. However, the games in hand are against Rangers home and away and Walter Smith's side will be unflinching in their determination to put them away.

----------------------------

Dundee United haven't won a game since 22nd March and have the toughest run in with a game at Ibrox on Saturday and against Celtic on the final day. They have the biggest chance to shape the way the league title is going in Glasgow. Previous resuslts and performances against both teams have been promising and if they win both games they have a massive, massive chance of qualifying for Europe.

Rangers v Dundee Utd, 12:30

Thursday, 22 May 2008
Clydesdale Bank Premier League
Dundee Utd v Celtic, 19:45

----------------------------

Hibernian have the advantage of being at home against one of their immediate rivals, Motherwell, on the last day of the season. Their performance against Rangers on Sunday was cagey and cautious and they'll need to show more willingness to take the game to their opponents, especially at Parkhead on Sunday, if they're going to have a chance of finishing third.

----------------------------

Aberdeen have apparently come from nowhere after scraping into the Top 6 and then stunning Hibs and United at Pittodrie to somehow climb back into European contention. They need to win their remaining two games and hope other results go their way but stranger things have happened in football and the pressure is on the other teams to perform like they have all season and see their own fixtures out, Aberdeen could sneak through and nick third place for a second season in a row after playing fairly rank all year.

Clydesdale Bank Premier League
Motherwell v Aberdeen, 15:00

Thursday, 22 May 2008

----------------------------

Setanta live games
10th May, Rangers v Dundee Utd
11th May, Celtic v Hibernian
17th May, Motherwell v Rangers
19th May, St Mirren v Rangers

(Anyone know what they're doing last day of the season?)

I'm very fucking excited.

Who's going to win the league and who's going to qualify for Europe? Anyone willing to stick their neck out?

I sincerely hope Rangers and Celtic go down to the wire, itd at least save something from the season the SPL has had.

Ive a feeling Celtic will drop points in their next game, and Rangers will do on the way as well.

Dundee Utd have thrown away europe, i think Hibs will take it.

Rangers for the league, they've worked hard and has a lot of good fortune along the way as well, can't see them letting it slip despite celtics late challenge.

I was at United and Aberdeen on Saturday and both teams played a load of total dross, neither would deserve to get into Europe playing like that.

If Hibs can beat Motherwell, I quite fancy them for Europe.

if Rangers win the two games against Motherwell, it'd leave the best finish to a season that i can remember in the SPL.

interesting to see Zenit have had their league games postponed until after the UEFA final.

Im hoping Hibs can get into Europe. I agree the Rangers game was a pain to watch. Far too cautious. I have a good feeling about tanning Motherwell though.

Zenit have a different scenario where they're only halfway through their season, much like the Scotland players getting a week off before Italy and Gretna postponed before Lyon etc.

Plus they have room to cancel games!

However, it wouldn't surprise me if we get an announcement in the next couple of days saying they're extending the season past the Scottish Cup Final or Rangers have at least attempted to move the United game. They'll reject it I think, if they're consistent with Seville.
If not, fair fucks to Rangers.

I have to say it's going to be Celtic for the league - I think Rangers fixture congestion is too much for the team to handle, Gers can't afford to drop any more points but I can see a few stumbling blocks along the way. I think away to Motherwell will be tough and Aberdeen will be well fired up for the last game of the season, the Dons tend to raise their game against Rangers and if they're still fighting for Europe I can see us slipping up.

Personally, if Rangers don't win the league but win the UEFA Cup, I could accept it, and vice versa if we lose to Zenit but win the league I'll be happy, but I'll be gutted if all we finish the season with is the CIS Cup and the Scottish Cup (which isn't guaranteed either, mind you)

Still, all in all from a general football perspective it's been a fantastically intriguing season what with everything that's happened, and it'll be one that alot of people will remember for many a year.

"Mind when Rangers got to the UEFA Cup final with Kirk Broadfoot in the team?"
"Yeah - what was all that about?!"

I've got a nasty feeling that losing to Aberdeen last weekend may just have put us out of the race for third...having said that, it would be awesome to get into Europe as a result of turning over both halves of the Old Firm.
