Score more goals than your opponent. That's what wins matches. If you were denied opportunities whose fault is it that you didn't create any more? Either your own for being not good enough offensively or Rangers' for defensively being better.

The simple fact is that Dundee United have failed to do this over the course of a season.

Spot on dude. like i posted a few posts back, Motherwell have picked up 4 points in the last 5 games, United could have easily over taken them, and put them to bed, IF they had been this amazing footballing side everyone here seems to think they are.

Mentioning bad defending in one game detracts from the point that time and time again the decisions never go our way at Ibrox and if we came away with a point yesterday which we deserved we would have had a hope for Europe. When we defended badly against Gretna we were unable to predict how important every point was going to be as we aren't psychic. Yesterday we knew exactly what we needed from the game and therefore bad refereeing at Ibrox cost us a place in Europe. How could we have known we were going to be in this position when we were playing Gretna? We are talking about the here and now.

When the season kicks off, you dont need to win matches. it only matters in May.

also your previous three games had all been against the other sides chasing 3rd place. did you honestly think you didnt need to beat them and a draw would do?

Kinda missing the point there. The stakes were a lot higher yesterday, it changes the way players perceive the game and ultimitely how they play the game.

It doesnt miss the point at all! a league season is over 38 games.

If you beat the smaller teams home and away, and get a decent result against the teams around you, chances are you finish higher than them.

One game doesnt affect a whole season. The stakes were higher yesterday BECAUSE of failures earlier in the season.

Then the same law applies to Rangers then surely. A draw yesterday would have really put the pressure on due to their inability to beat such miniscule teams like United and Hibs as well as defeat at Parkhead eh? But of course its not gonna be a draw, it's at Ibrox so we stood no chance. That's all we are pointing out here, I personally couldn't give a toss about a game where we had an off day and were caught out by a seemingly lesser team. The attitude that United should always beat the smaller' teams is ridiculous, where would there be any competition. It would be boring to watch, much like the Rangers matches.

All of this is smoke and mirrors detracting from the actual point. The argument is about Mike McCurry's (and others') inherently pro-Old Firm refereeing, not who beat who three months ago. As it was, this was a game that could have sent us into Europe and so the stakes were higher (as they were for Rangers - if you'd beat Celtic in those two Old Firm games, you'd already have the title, but no), and Mike McCurry's refereeing made a mockery of fair play.

Of course we knew we had to beat them but we didnt making yesterday such an important game hence why a fair game was needed. We were clearly naive to think we could get that at Ibrox. Why is so difficult to discuss this match? I think I know.....
