Again, I never said there were no United casuals however I am saying that they aren't the cause of as much violence. Whether that's down to there being more Rangers fans, I don't know but from all my years as a football fan it has been old firm violence which has been more of an issue than United fan violence. Also I have stated again and again that the violence from Rangers is merely one of many things which makes me dislike them. And yes I can create a balanced arguement, I do it everyday ![]() |

I think both old firm teams are particularly bad for drunken louts in their fanbase. It's the inherent rivalrly between those two teams that I think attracts those of a violent disposition. This often spills out to other football fans.
I'm not saying that other teams don't have violent fans but Rangers and Celtic will always be attractive teams for those simply spoiling for a fight. edit: I feel I should use an example here. I went to high school in Glenrothes and most of the kids from there would support Raith Rovers or, like myself, suport the Edinburgh or Dundee teams because that's where their parents came from. However, it was common for kids to pick an old firm team to support purely for the purpose of getting into arguments/fights. Im sure my high school wasn't unique in this? Itd be interesting to see an arrests to attendance chart for Scottish football. Id also hazard a guess there is less media coverage of the smaller sides fan troubles, Hibs and Hearts have a very unfriendly fan rivalry. Plenty of thugs and wankers listen to some of my favourite bands, im not gunna stop listening to them based on that. Unfortunately clubs cant hand pick their fans. Feel free to state the other things you dislike Rangers for. |

Rangers fans riot twice in their two most recent European finals. United and Scottish fans in general are celebrated throughout Europe, they definitely have the upper hand on the 'social poison' (the words of a Rangers fan) within Rangers Football Club. Your petty reasoning is really quite pathetic. I don't know why you're being so defensive, take your medicine and move on. |

Johnny, can you actually post without coming off as arrogant and holier than thou?
The actual point in getting across is every club has a section of fans that are morons. To single one out, is narrow minded. In surprised you've yet to point out how Celtic have "the greatest fans on earth" yet pelt a team doctor with coins, run onto the pitch and interfere with opposing players and sing songs that are pro-IRA. Im all for pro-action against anyone involved with violence at a football event, id ideally like it for all Rangers fans to be well behaved and orderly, just irritates me when people want to single Rangers out for events which happen at their own clubs. Bitter? Hypocritical? i think so. I cant wait to hear your reasoning for events like this :- Twenty Major - still smoking in Dublin bars.: Rioting in Dublin oh, and remember that nice bunch aboard the plane... BBC NEWS | Wales | Fans warned after plane 'riot' or how about the plane gestures towards Claudio Reyna at Ibrox after 9/11? Seriously, there is a scum element at every football club, but single out Rangers if it makes you feel better? Last edited by RiseAgainst : 16th May 2008 at 01:18 PM. |

There seems to be the same odd Rangers defending logic at work here as there was in the McCurry thread. No-one is claiming that it is only Rangers who have troublesome fans. The fact is though, Rangers fans have proven time and time again to be theworst, as was ably demonstrated by the disgraceful aftermath of the UEFA final. In an sad way, the Rangers related events of the past 10 days sum up perfectly why Rangers are almost universally hated by everyone but their own fans in Scotland. Are you not embarassed to see UDA propaganda at a UEFA cup final? The Red Hand of Ulster? Good god, it's cringeworthy and nasty all at the same time. Incidentally, the same would go for Celtic/IRA, before anyone says anything. I really wish we could get to the stage where the Old Firm would move down to England. Yes there would be less money in the SPL, but what an incredibly tight race it would be for the title. We would finally have a premier league that reflects our international image - filled with banter, high-spirited and passionate. Not fat, bald, stupid and violent. |

People are discussing the events of the week and just because they support a particular team you're trying to defend your own club with stupid attacks and BBC stories. I've not even mentioned Celtic in this thread I don't think? Is a United fan not allowed to criticise what happened in Manchester and Rangers in general just because 3 fans got arrested at Hampden? You're trying to say "sort out your own flock before casting stones towards others" but it's backfiring and making you look a fool, in my own opinion. It's very Martin Bain. Celtic fans are as bad as Rangers fans in the vicinity of each other, there's no doubting it. But abroad they are celebrated throughout Europe in a similar way to the Tartan army, as are United, the other team you're attacking this thread. There's no hypocrisy here because I'm not claiming Celtic fans are angels. There's a sizable minority in the Celtic support which are abhorrent. I think it's a little more complex than saying they're "Pro-IRA" but nevertheless it has no place in football at all and it's hateful and disgusting. Every Rangers fan I know is a good person but we're discussing the events in Manchester and your crusade to mire every club someone in this thread is connected to is entirely pointless. The culture within that sizable minority of Rangers Football Club goes against everything I believe in. It includes racism, bigotry, thuggish behaviour and cancerous nationalism of the British empire. I single it out because the only other clubs that are on my radar with this culture are Millwall and Chelsea and that's before we've even touched upon ANYTHING to do with Ireland. ![]() I'm all for defending your team and its fans when you feel like you and some of your fellow, non-trouble making, fans are being branded with the same label as the few bad ones, but I think in this case you need to just take it on the chin and accept you're going to get some stick for a little while. I think it's good that the non-trouble making fans annoyed like this though. It hopefully means that there's more pressure on the small section of idiotic fans not to do stupid things like rioting. I don't see it as everyone unfairly persecuting Rangers fans though, it's just that this is what's news just now. Give it a week and we'll all start talking about how disgraceful the Man Utd and Chelsea fans are! |
