season 2009/10 thread
Now that 2008/09 is out of the way and we are into June, I propose that we start a new thread which is inclusive of all football rather than the sphell.
Im optimistic for 09/10 but I want more new signings ![]() What are your thoughts onn the coming season or transfer rumours (or in most cases "new boss" rumours) |

United-wise, I'm quite happy with Banks as back-up/goalkeeper coach and am reasonably hopeful about Cademateri doing well, particularly as a wide-man. I'd also like to see the boy Wesolowski (probably spelt wrong) back for next year, but Levein staying is the main thing for me.

Banks had a good run in the Hearts team a few seasons back, i remember a string of saves against Rangers that was just outstanding.
Id be happy to see some defensive cover arrive at Ibrox, plus an out and out winger with a bit of pace. Kinda worried with the loss of Setanta money, the more competitive edge recently the SPL has had may go away with Rangers and Celtic still turning the cash over and the rest having to trim squads down. |

If Setanta go bust expect a few clubs to go to the wall.
Was it Falkirk and United that got a payment from the SFA that would get paid back when the Setanta money came through? How are they going to pay that now? The short-sightedness of every club who isn't Aberdeen, Celtic or Rangers in allowing the Setanta deal to go through instead of taking the same money from Sky (but with less upfront money) is an absolute joke. Also, the way Setanta are treating the SPL is awful, seeing as this division put it on the map as a broadcaster in the UK. As for a new manager I'd take any of Tony Mowbray, Martinez or Coyle (who still hasn't signed that Burnley contract). Balde, Nakamura and JVoH are all leaving with frees up a lot of wage cash so I'd expect a few decent signings in those areas. McManus can fuck off if he wants, that'd be a bonus. I dont like the way Setanta aren't renegotiating with the English FA or Premier League on those contracts, its all very much like the ITV Football League deal of a few years ago.
It baffles me why Balde is still picking up £30k (reportedly) to sit and do fuck all. I always rated Venegoor as a decent striker, good target man but that doesn't fit in the Celtic style of play currently. Didnt Coyle turn you lot down recently in an interview? (found this link - Owen Coyle rules out Celtic switch by agreeing new Burnley contract - Telegraph) I kinda see Mowbary as a very Alex McLeish kinda figure, domestically he should get the results but could he mastermind a result away from home in Europe? Im quite happy Charlie Adam looks like he is staying, he did some good stuff at Blackpool on loan and would be a good player to have on the bench. No idea who we are likely to bring in, hopefully get rid of Ferguson before he deteriorates to the point we couldn't give him away. |

am excited for forfar this season. They look like they are aiming to be serious promotion contenders this season
thanks to the SKY money we are no longer skint and can afford to buy a few decent players we have already made two good signings in Chris Templeman and Kevin Fotheringham along with extending the number of the Campbell family to four with the signing of Ian Campbell mon the loons Last edited by CageManagement; 3rd June 2009 at 06:37 PM. |

Hopefully I can get to more arbroath games in the new season, didn't get to any at all after Christmas! I hope Arbroath get another striker that can support Scott. I think Ross is a winger but scored a few goals, so if we can keep him that will be good. Consolidation really.

Management speculation has been minimal for us at the moment. Yogi being the only widely reported name. I wouldn't mind him tbh. We need someone who can work within a budget, the purse strings at Easter Road will be at their tightest in while.
edit: Just read that ex-Stockport County man Jim Gannon might land the job. Not sure what to make of that... I'm resigned to the inevitible; Fletcher and Jones are going. I'm optomistic we can keep a hold of Deeks and Nish, which is good. Our youth team have been superb in 08/09 so hopefully a few new faces will make decent debuts for us. So, Hibees in Europe next year - fuck yeah!
