I think that it is my favourite console, maybe. It'd be close between that and the Gamecube/DS. I like the wealth of homebrew stuff available for it and the ability to obtain almost any game for it easily online. I never had any of this going on during its lifespan though, I have about 30 or so original games for it, but the ease of copying the games and playing copies by using a small, easily found online iso of a boot-disc, were contributing factors in its downfall. It's a good one to collect for now, having died relatively recently, and morons at car bootsales selling DCs and the games for really cheap because they're not quite "retro gaming" and it's not cutting edge either. Tesco were selling Dreamcasts for £20 or something equally ludicrous when they discontinued them. Needless to say they were all snapped up by employees.

Shenmue 1 + 2 are my favourite games of all time.
It's a shame number 3 onwards looks unlikely, leaving the story on a cliffhanger ![]() What a game though, seriously. You can get number 2 on the Xbox, it includes a 'movie' of Shenmue 1 so you're clued in on the story. |

Dreamcast is amazing for homebrew. The libraries that people have made for it are really, really good. You can even legally develop games, and sell them, as long as you use the homebrew libraries that people have created, and don't try to pirate the Sega libraries. You're better off using the homebrew libraries anyway to be honest, there's a lot more support for them, and a lot more people using them, so it's easier to get help.
Unlike some other consoles, the shitty copy protection, allows you to do homebrew programming, without needing a chipped dreamcast. I messed about with dreamcast programming for a while, it's great fun. All you need is a coders cable, or a broadband adapter for your dreamcast, and you're all set. |

hahahahahaha, they are hardly realistic with today's standards but i adored shenmue 2 because to me it was my first experience of an "ongoing world" that existed without the player ![]() Like when you get your first job and literally have to do it, you really had to grind for quite a bit and then "Here's is your 5 dollars, come back tomorrow!" I feel completely ashamed when I think of the day my ex and me sold ours for about 37 pence to cash convertors so i could get my baby some out of date SMA and 2 fixes of heroin for us. we sold other stuff to, mostly stolen. nobody in their right mind sells junk for 37p... |
