Game Consoles (pre N64 and Playstation)
Get in.
Sega Master System - Duck Hunt, still one of the best gun games ever. It also had a tight bike racing game. And I think Shinobi Ninja Assassin (the name is probably completely wrong, fuck knows if it was even Shinobi...) was doss because it was a absoloutely nails game to play. I was very very young when I had this (it wasn't even mine it was my brothers...) I remember I used to love it though, probably more so than him. and SNES - Everything about Mario owned. F-Zero. Starfox (i think was amazing) and the off shoot cartoony racing game with the trucks with faces also superb. Rival Turf (god knows if thats the right name either) was an awesome Streets of Rage esque game, clearly not to the same standard though. Batman Returns was piss. I swapped it with my mate for F - Zero, and suprise suprise, he hasn't asked for it back. DONKEY KONG WAS IMMENSE. I remember I used to think the graphics were the greatest thing ever. NBA Jam was 'on fireeeeee'. Also Street Fighter would more than likely have been my game of choice on any occasion. I got caught with dope a few years ago hidden in the Street Fighter III Ultra edition (or something of similar exuberance) and the memories still haunt me when I look at that beautiful metal case. Also since Crash Bandicoot for the Playstation when has there ever been a decent sorta kids game series!? That's why this thread is pre Playstation, cos that's around the time graphics became more important than characters that could be made into toys for your happy meals.

Sega all the way. I started off with a game gear (Prince of Persia and aliens 3 were 2 of the best platform games ever made) and progressed to a megadrive which i had this game for called populus that was a kind of primitive 'play god' type of thing. Other megadrive favourites include where in the world is Carmen Sandiego (which looking back now was probably quite shit), skitchin', cannon fodder and this doom style game with robots and aliens that i've forgotten the name of that i'm pretty sure was the first game to use 3 dimensions.
I was also really into football games, i remember getting european championship soccer (or whatever it was called) and thinking that there was no way the graphics could ever be topped ![]() My first ever console was an atari 2600, i can't really remember much about it other than i had this flight simulator game that basically involved lining up a square of pixels with another square of pixels and pressing the only button, for some reason it kept me entertained for hours. |

I too owned a Game Gear. It had a cool 2d flying game. Also there was a four game, game. It had tetris, whoop.
Also classic Nintendo vs Sega poll added. Last edited by Bikerboy : 9th October 2006 at 01:01 AM. |

We had my Uncle's NES (for some reason) and I hardly touched it because my Mega Drive was miles better.
ps it was just "Shinobi" on the master system, I got that with the console and it was hard as fook! |

Sega fo sho.
I had a Commodore 64 before that though. All the games were fucking impossible, I think I maybe got up to about level 5 or something in Space Harrier, and never found the helecopter you were meant to at the end of level 1 in Rambo. The games took about 20 minutes to load. Sometimes you would wait for the full 20 minutes to find nothing but a screen of brightly coloured lines. It was quite frustrating. |
