UFO: Extraterrestrials

Does anyone remember possibly the greatest strategy game ever made?
X-com: Enemy Unknown

A Chezch company has produced a sequel to it:

UFO:EXTRATERRESTRIALS - tactical and RPG Ufo styled strategy game

I've only played it about 4hours and already I'm really impressed. Graphically its superior to X-Com (obviously) but not to 2007 standards, being an indie game and all. The atmosphere is way ahead of any other pretenders to X-Coms throne although to be fair, no game will ever come close to matching it. this is aided by having loads of the same sound effects from the original, helping immersion if you have played it before.

It's also pretty moddable, some people have already changed all the minor differences to have the same ruleset as X-Com and someone else is working on putting it back on Earth instead of an alien planet.

I'll put up a review once I've completed it or got closer to the end but so far I'm really impressed.

ive followed the intire series devoutly and after playing the frustrating Aftershock i went back and started on enemy unknown again.

i hear theres going to be another x-com made by the original company and its going to be a lot truer to its roots.

it cant be worse than afterlight, aftereight, afternoon, afterwards, afterbirth etc...

From the threads where I found out about this loads of x-com diehards were panning After* and praising this, I only ever played X-Xom Enemy Unknown, Terror From the Deep (which I found unplayable being partially colour blind) and the first of the real time microcity ones which I played for about an hour then uninstalled.

I spent many many hours of my youth travelling to Cydonia to whipe out the Alien threat to our glorious planet...TFTD was so so...not quite as good, but X-Com Apocalypse was one of my all time favorite games!

TFTD was impossible without the money cheat, but using the cracker on lobsters was the shit!!

apocalyse quite literally had the worst interface out of all the ufo/x-com series. you'd tell a soldier to move one square but unbeknown to you a small rock was in the way, therefore your soldier would go through and elaborate series on lying down and getting up like a spasmodic breakdancer.

i still loved it though.

hahaha, yes it did! made for many minutes of laughing at my friends expense when his beloved cyborg with loads of stanima would run around like a demented badger, run out of action/movement points and be gunned down by an acid spitting 'pink thing'

I just liked giving characters assualt cannons with explosive rounds and going on raids to 'fuck some shit up gangsta style'...and why not? Just as long as you dont piss off the Senate...
