Video games are rape simulators says MP
I for one think that these dreadful rape simulators should be banned, and that this subforum should be closed!
BBFC role questioned in Parliament debate // GamesIndustry.biz Seriously though, is that what this has come to? No one will support your quest to strip adults of their right to decide what they can and can't watch/play, so let's just make shit up! Last edited by humndislocation : 8th March 2008 at 02:33 PM. |

I was researching this and apparently there was crime BEFORE computer games.
The "interactive" arguement is complete and utter bullcrap in comparing film to games. A good film will have you relate to the character and feel immersed in what is going on. If anything I'd argue that someone is more likely to commit a crime because they wanted to like a film/tv character than someone from a game! Then again, just another case of MPs reacting to rare and isolated incidents without any real knowledge or understanding of gaming or games. Sheer ignorance. Edit: I don't think they should even NEED to ban or increase censorship. They should just make sure these restrictions are enforced. When a kid does something horrible in reaction to a game/film, rather than blaming the game... who the hell provided them with it? The "interactive" arguement is complete horseshit. Controlling a video game character that kills someone, is nothing like killing someone in real life, regardless of whether you're in control or not. Shooting a video game character, that isn't alive, and can't think for itself, is entirely different from shooting a real, live person, with thoughts, feelings, family, etc. |

Is this the same incident that they claimed the killer trained by playing manhunt. Yet it was later revealed that the killer had never played manhunt but the victim had, in his spare time in between being a drug dealer?

it is indeed.
I would say that a game was less likely to cause or influence violent behaviour because you can do it virtually. its like a second life you know? I could never be the manager of Rangers (Football Manager), or jump huge buildings in a single bound (Crackdown) or kill people with a 2x4 (Condemned) but I can do all these things virtually in a computer game. |

I tried to Force influnce two Bounty Hunters to give me all their credits, their armour, equipment and weapons then throw themselves down a nearby cliff...or was that when i was playing Knights Of The Old Republic?
Curse this thin barrier that blurs the distinction between real life and video games! |

Ha, that reminds me of the time Lee was popping off baddies in his sleep with a sniper rifle. he wouldnt let his missus out the room to get Pajamas because he had to pick off the Guards first.

seriously though, its bit shit but for any game to get outlawed, theyd have to have proof of such claims... therefore its probably best not to worry and youll still get to enjoy your "rape simulators" at will ... if the law was so powerful we wouldnt have drugs, guns, knifes and hookers readily available to those who have the determination to go looking for them...
