I've been watching videos of this on you tube and a trailer for Resident Evil 5.

I have a wee savings policy coming through on my 26th birthday (this july) and even though I'm moving to Cheshire for a Uni course in September and I should really save my money til i get a job down there.....

a large chunk is going to be spunked on a Playstation 3 and GTA4.

Not being able to play this game right now is killing me!

If funds are an issue, you should probably go for the 360 version instead. There's not much between the 360 and PS3 technology wise, so unless you want a blueray player, or the small handful of games that will be PS3 exclusive, you're probably better off with a 360, as it's cheaper.

Plus, the 360 version of GTA is getting downloadable content, and the PS3 isn't. (Or there's going to be 360 exclusive episodic content, or something like that, I forget the details)

apparntley if you dont hang out with them enough they leave you. I think its if the friendship drops below the 40% mark. Which in turn (without spoiling it too much) causes you to lose valuable and cool friendship abilities. Also there is an achievment for all your friends liking you alot at the end of the game.

Thats a load of absolute cocks. The ps3 is the superior console by far ( I have both by the way, im not just being biast) Granted GTA4 for the 360 will have downloadable content and what not, but the ps3 is still the stronger console. The fact that developers can use the bluray technology is opening up a whole world full of possibilities especially in sandbox games. Even on paper the ps3 is more powerful.


Also, i believe there was talks in edge magazine of RESI 5 being a PS3 exclusive.

At the end of the day though it's the quality of games that makes a console sell, regardless of how powerful it is. You only need to look at the Wii for evidence of this. It's shitting on both 360 and PS3 and it's the least powerful console of the three.

The download-able content for the 360 version of GTA4 comes out in August, there are magazine ads for it already.

There is only one game that'll push me over the line into buying a PS3 and that is the new MGS, and it ain't even out yet.

I couldn't find a copy of this in Newcastle yesterday, which annoyed me until I saw it was a nice sunny day today!

However, my sisters HMV in Edinburgh is getting more stock at the end of the week, and she's getting me one with her staff discount
I can wait a wee bit longer for that!

Seriously, there really isn't that much between them.

On paper, the PS3 is a lot more powerful, but "on paper" means fuck all. The PS3 has more cores, but game engines are very very hard to write, such that they make the most advantage of multiple processors. The amount of speedup you get from running a program in parallel on multiple processors, is bottlenecked by the amount of code that has to run in series, and game engines are a type of program, where a lot of the subsystems are interdependent on data from the other.

My understanding is that some of the cores also need to have data fed to them in a particular way, in order to get the most out of them, but take that with a pinch of salt, as I've never coded for PS3.

Yeah, blueray is an advantage, but it's not that much of an advantage when you consider that most games will probably come out for both platforms, since games are very expensive to make nowadays, and limiting your audience by releasing on one platform only. Some games might use it for PS3 exclusive content, or more detailed assets.

I recon you'd get one when you see people playing LittleBigPlanet if MGS didn't exist

To be honest though, I've had mine since release day and if I didn't use it a lot for the media centre stuff I probably would've traded it for an elite when they came out.

If you're judging consoles purely on how good they are for games (forgetting media centre etc) then you really have to look no further than the games that are available for them.

and when the hell is Home coming out?


Also, on topic, Anyone recon they're going to win themselves the "keys to the city" by getting 100% by tonight? check it out! some guy did it in 4days, 14hrs, 9mins, 3secs. That's pretty ridiculous, I mean, fair enough if people are doing that their 3rd time through or whatever, but it's only been out 6 days!

I have a very simple reason for wanting a PS3. The control pad. That X-Box thing is a fucking monstrosity.
