Big battle of bands for REAL music industry opportunity
Was asked to pass on by Dundee Council Music Development........
Press Release - BRINGING MUSIC BACK TO “LIVE” The time has finally arrived where a legitimate competition is creating real opportunities for bands to get recognition from the music industry across Europe and America. The name is Emergenza (Emergence), a showcase event that has seen 21 bands signed in 2002 to labels such as Columbia, Island and Universal records and is now launching its third edition in the UK. Emergenza is an official talent scouting agency for Columbia/Sony (Ger) and is in collaboration with all the major music manufacturers, making it the largest, most prestigious music contest across Europe and America. Staging in excess of 2,500 concerts per year, we create an environment where bands can truly express themselves. The event’s format is based with one crucial goal in mind: to give bands the opportunity to have their music heard in a professional capacity, presenting it in a format the industry knows and loves best. Staged in the best venues around the UK: (Carling Academy, Olympia Theatre, London Astoria) and staffed with qualified personnel, they also provide a specialized back line consisting of an Ampeg 8x10 SVT bass rig, 2 Crate Blue Voodoo valve state, 1 x 3 way digital modeling amp and 6 piece Mapex drum kit with Sabian Xplosive cymbals. Performance and technical meetings are held before each event, furthermore ensuring that each musician achieves their ideals in performance and sound. Registration is £40 per band, a necessary fee to maintain the event’s impartiality and avoid any conflict of interest with other media or music related companies. However, in return, each band is welcomed into the event with free Ernie Ball strings for all bass and guitar players, Regal tip sticks and Remo skins for all drummers. Each city running the event will have 3 stages, 1st round, semifinal and grand final. The finals, whilst still a competitive heat, are also an opportunity for the bands to showcase their talents to a panel of music industry judges who will decide, together with the audience, the best bands and the best musicians. Those chosen will win Stingray basses, OLP guitars, Crate Digital Amps, Sabian cymbals, Mapex drums and Sennheiser microphones totaling a staggering £250,000 across Europe. The UK final is held at the renowned London Astoria, showcasing the best bands from each region. This takes their music from a local to a national audience, an experience best explained by last years winner, Uncle Rocks, “The showdown for the UK final was held at the Astoria, where the remaining bands of the original 400 who ran the gauntlet went head to head. The Astoria was packed to the rafters, where the title of Number One Unsigned Band in Britain was at stake. The pressure was on, as the upper tear was packed with music industry people, film crews and recognizable faces from prominent bands. Uncle Rocks came out of the dry ice to a rapturous cheer. When the smoke cleared, we were voted the best unsigned band in the UK”. The two winning UK bands will then take part in the televised, 4-day open-air Taubertal festival in Rothenburg, Germany. Emergenza covers every expense incurred and that includes the beer! The bands play in front of the 40,000 revelers, warming up for the main acts, which in past years has seen Travis, Wheatus, Hblockx, Prodigy, Ash, and the Cardigans perform. This is also an official scouting showcase event for Columbia records/Sony (Ger). Speaking of the Taubertal, Eric Serrano of US band Offspring said, “This is an amazing and real opportunity for bands to get noticed and signed, but even if they don’t, this experience is one which even established artists today don’t get the opportunity to experience. I am astounded by the quality of the bands and the organization, it doesn’t surprise me that some many acts have been signed through this event”. The Overall Winner, if not signed by now, will receive a 2-week, 4 dates US tour supporting major International acts, organized in conjunction with MusicMan/Ernie Ball. Why wouldn’t your band join? For further information on the event and how to get your band involved please contact: Web: www.emergenzauk.co.uk Email: London@emergenza.net Or contact Emergenza Head Office on: 0207 684 2483. |

my band Scallywag are playing the Glasgow heat, look at it this way, you pay about £20 to use a studio, so ur paying £40 for 2 gigs if u can get enough people to come then you have a very good chance of taking the stage at Carling Academy, dont care about gettin noticed but who wouldn't wana say they've played somewhere as big as that?
4 piece band, £10 each, 1 gig guarenteed, 4 out of 6 bands go through so you have a good chance of playing the next 1, sell enough tickets and ur in the Scottish final My mates band Daedalian got to the final last year, said it was amazing and didnt seem like a con at all! |

the only part i disagree with is having the crowd to vote for the winner, its more a popularity contest than a battle of the bands in that case!!
But im lookin forward to it anyway, our 1st gig is Rockers in Glasgow, Sat March 20th, £5, over 14s, everyone come please lol ![]() (nice bit of plugging there ) |

i always thought battle of the bands events WERE popularity contests. isn't achieving popularity the point of these things? |
