The Pine/David Lopan/The Pact/The Rest. July 6th Studio 24, Edinburgh
Cold Dead Hands Present...
The Pine [USA] In there relatively short existence so far The Pine have knocked out three (soon to be four) albums, a seven inch, comp appearances and two split sevens with Italy’s La Quiete and The fellow Americans The Saddest Landscape. Their songs are comparable at times perhaps to Husker Du. The Pine are an emo band in the truest sense of the word, from their messily hand screened artwork to their ramshackle melancholic songs, they draw from the same well of inspiration that made predecessors such as Evergreen and the Hated so essential. The guitars are thick walls of crashing reverb, underpinned by inventive melodic bass lines that drive the songs forward, in turn overlaid with sung, broken-hearted melodies. Bittersweet to the core, the Pine live is a fantastic heart lifting experience. http://www.geocities.com/thepinepage David Lopan [Eng] David Lopan are a young four piece from _______. They started life as your basic common or garden metal core band (with the requisite twinkly breakdowns). But over the last year, they’re progressed immeasurably to their current incarnation Calling to mind acts such as Envy, City of Caterpillar, You and I or Saetia. Quiet, clean, off tempo jazz tinged sections explode into shattered fragments of spazz out screamo. (With occasional hand claps). This is their first show north of the border and they’ve promised to make it memorable. Their Debut CD is out soon through Pogonophobia Records. http://www.davidlopan.co.uk/ The Pact [Sco] The Pact are a nightmare to describe. A complete anomaly amongst their contemporaries. Drums, Bass and Violin, with occasional vocals (spoken, screamed or sung) that creates a completely unique and powerful sound. Building from slow sorrowful dirges, into charging passages of melody and enthusiasm. Definitely worth investigating for those that appreciate something different. www.thepact4u.co.uk The Rest [Eng] If the rest were from America and had perfect teeth they’d be so huge right now it’d hurt. Fortunately for us, they Rest are from Newcastle and Irn-Bru and Red Kola have taken a vicious toll on their pearly whites. Keyboard driven rock sounds, with a nod to Public Image and a side serving of that new dance-guitar crossover sound. The Rest wins through with a cheeky grin a middle finger to the coolset in Rapture shirts. (There is also the possibility of another band being added to the bill who are jumping on the Pine Tour in Mainland Europe, it'll make times tight and mean twenty minute sets from most, but if people are interested we'll maybe go with it) Doors 7.30pm Entrance £5 Tuesday 6th of July As ever the Cold Dead Hands Tape Swap will be in effect. There's should also be at least two distros. Last edited by Ewan_C : 13th June 2004 at 04:30 PM. |

They were amzing in Germany. If any of you have particular fav pine songs get their early and request them. If they haven't played the song for a while, they'll try have a little practice in the Van for you and play it later. Faultless

kay: haha, competition was the worst word to use in the world and i can assure you i don't see it like that at all. but yeah i'll be driving up to this in my lexus with a few of the lads again so if you don't mind me bringing along the distro then that would be great.
also, i don't know how you are for getting a floor for bands to sleep on etc. but wavecave have a house in edinburgh that we go back to after gigs there, so if you tell us in advance then he could arrange something for you. we may just be driving home and he'll probably be pissed i mentioned it, but we were all sitting there after the ctts gig and felt pretty bad for not even offering. |
