The A Forest + Saint Judes Infirmary + Severin - Friday 5th November - Drouthies
The A Forest Saint Judes Infirmary Severin Friday 5th November Drouthie Neebors 9PM, £2 If you're scared of fireworks, or bonfire night just doesn't work out as planned, here's a night of music for you. Come down after the fireworks and keep warm and entertained! Only two pounds in to see two lovely bands all the way from Edinburgh and some local chancers! The A Forest The A Forest are Cat, Chris, Eilidh, Ewan, George and Michael who between them play bass, cello, drums, guitar, synth and voice. Since we started to exist in the Spring of 2003 we have made noises in front of people alongside bands like Mountain Men Anonymous, Motormark (recently signed to Digital Hardcore Records), Misty's Big Adventure and James Apollo. Our debut single is a split 7" with Mercury Tilt Switch, which has been picking up some very nice reviews. The A Forest have been told they sound "twinkly" and "sleepy", and were very pleased to be told that they sound like "Low having sex with Yo La Tengo and giving birth to Broadcast". "a bittersweet dreamscape of breathy Stereolab romance" - The List (Single of the Week) "these guys and girls are like the soundtrack to a dream" - Drowned in Sound "simply a magnificent soundscape...it feels like a long time since a band from Scotland has created something so lovely in this genre" - Stayfun "a rather fine tune" - Is This Music? Single available on the night as always. £2 for the 7" + a CDR. http://www.theaforest.co.uk Saint Judes Infirmary Rising from the ashes of an under-fourteen football team. SAINT JUDE'S INFIRMARY were formed in Kirkcaldy, Fife in the mid-nineties based around the song-writing of twins Ashley and Grant Campbell and the velvet voice of their cousin Emma-Jane. Early reviews compared their embryonic sound to a first untrammelled howls of the Velvet Undergound mixed with a primal sixties girl-group beat - a comparison that neither time nor wisdom has shaken. "Truly spine tingling dream pop" "Star-crossed mix of Blondie & Leonard Cohen" - Reviews of debut single "Home Made Christmas Card" "Possibly the band that are turning me on the most just now", "simply stunning, the band to watch for this year" - Jim Gellatly (Beat 106) "A gorgeously lethargic wisp of Velvet Underground/Mazzy Star melancholy, these Edinburgh dreamers are what rainy days rain for. Fronted by a sweetly cooing Debbie Harry lookalike, they've only been together for a few months but their talent rivals that of bands with careers a dozen times as long" - Paul Whitelaw (Scotland On Sunday) http://www.saintjudesinfirmary.co.uk Severin Cosmic Gospel Country Music What the press say: "Offbeat indie rythms combine with countryish slide guitar, washes of feedback and brilliantly simple melodies combine to create a unique glowing vibe..." What the band say: 'These are songs inspired by anything we've ever listened to. Soul, blues , gospel and Rock n' Roll. Out of this we hope to bring something original, but still rooted in Rock n' Roll.' Tipping a hat to Keith Richards, Kingsbury Manx, The Louvin Brothers, The Staple Singers, The Sadies, Beachwood Sparks, Beck, Bo Diddley, Clarence White, The Beach Boys, The Shins, Low and Lou Reed. http://www.severin-music.co.uk |

Go to this gig, and/or the fireworks, but whatever you choose to do: keep your pets indoors.
I'm coming!
