MY REVENGE @ BLACK (Queen St. Glasgow) 23/11
MY REVENGE "My Revenge began in Burlington, VT in 2001. As a reaction to the proliferation of emo and metal that passed as hardcore, My Revenge wanted to ignite the spirit and sound of bands like Minor Threat and Token Entry by playing what the felt was hardcore in its most undiluted form: raw and fast. My Revenge has successfully stepped int put hardcore's original identity in check. My Revenge released their first full length, "Both Feet Over The Line", on ELEMENT RECORDS - vinyl only. The band are true fans of the wax format and wanted to make that known. They proceeded to tour constantly. In 2002 they went on the road for the "12 Days To Destroy America Tour" where the band brought a launch ramp with them and they skated all over America. "Everyone in My Revenge skates, we sing about skateboarding, and we care about that as much as the music. We now have a van that's large enough for a launch ramp, and to bring a flat rail on tour", explains Spencer Crispe, "...We are heavily inspired by NYHC and skaterock. NYHC bands like: WarZone, Token Entry, Murphy's Law, Underdog, Straight Ahead, and Judge are big influences, as well as skate bands like The Faction, Suicidal Tendencies, etc..... In additional to skateboarding we're all about barbecuing, all the time (whenever we can't go to Subway!). This past summer, 2003, we did the "Barbecue Across America Tour" where we played the Sink With California Fest, and Arizona, places on the west coast, and barbecued wherever we went." When it comes to playing live, My Revenge promise to hold nothing back : "We have been characterized as musical terrorists on stage. At our shows it's common place for the drumset or guitar to get set on fire and thrown at the audience. One time we had kids launching off the launch ramp onto the pile-on, and then I lit the drumset on fire. We're all about 100% participation, because that ensures as much raw energy being set forth as possible. We want things to be pure pandemonium. Nothing but out of control." Lyrically, My Revenge are pissed off, angry, but yet somewhat positive about social or political issues, alienation, and feeling at odds with a lot of the Mainstream society in America. Spencer elaborates, "We have a very punk rock state of mind, and we believe hardcore and punk rock are one-in-the-same thing. Hardcore is about more than just the music, it's much deeper than that, and it can provide and outlet for people who never felt like they "fit in" or people who don't see eye to eye with all the corrupt bullshit out there, and who want to change it. We also sing about skateboarding, Which not enough bands do anymore!" MY REVENGE will be recording their debut full length for THORP RECORDS January 2004 at the Breakaway Studios in Burlington, Vermont. Look for late spring/early summer 2004 release.
