RumbaTabla at the Rep, Thurs 04/11

Thursday 4th Nov @ 9pm RUMBA TABLA
Following a holiday in Cuba, percussionist Ricky Lynne returned with a fascination for the Afro-Cuban rhythms of the Rumba. Combining this with the Tabla -the almost melodic drum used in much Asian music, Ricky's new band explore rhythm like a journey.

i know it might be a bit pointless to post this but if any drummers, or just anyone with a bit of interest in Cuban music, are looking for something a bit different, this is it. Ricky is one of the best percussionists in the area and this is the first gig (i think) of his latest project RumbaTabla. it also opens the regular Jazz Club nights in the Rep. changed to thursday instead of friday, which is a bit shit.

oh yeah, some people might know Ricky if they get drum lessons at the Dundee schools he teaches at.

this was fantastic by the way. it wasnt really jazzy at all and there were some amazing cuban grooves going on. the tabla work really has to be seen to be believed. theyre playing again on the 18th in drouthies if anyone's even remotely interested.

p.s: sorry, theres no guitars. but the violinist is really good, i think she plays in sonnet 65 too.
