Mixed bills rule! The staleness of watching 3 hardcore/punk/metal/'insert generic genre here' on one bill is terrible and glasgow suffers from it.

Personally speaking, I don't these days. Pretty much every gig I've played has included bands of wildly varying genres, and I find it much more interesting and satisfying as a result.

You got the wrong end of the stick. I DON'T tend to go to boring shows. I don't see what your point is.

well if you dont go to them dont complain about them. i know i'd much rather go to a show where i know i will enjoy the type of music rather than having to sit through 3 sets of shit just to ee one band

the only good thing about gigs with wildly varying styles is you can piss off for food while the crap you don't like is on.

varied bills can sometimes be good but generally not.
i don't care for free form bongo jazz, gospel choir, hardcore and hip hop on the same bill. i wouldn't go, i'd view it as a waste of my time. however a bill with 3 hardcore bands and one different style i would go to.
chances are i would go for chips during the other style band if i didn't like them but at least i'd have gone to the gig.
i think anyone into free form bongo jazz would be the same, less likely to go to something that holds hardly any interest for them but go for something which holds a lot of interest and just one quirk.

You are exaggerating the differences between the 'bands' you mention to make the idea look ridiculous. However, what we're primarily talking about here is metal/rock bands playing with hardcore/punk bands because you rarely get them mixing with much else. These types of music are totally inter-related and have been made by people into all of the above and playing gigs with each other. Those styles really aren't all that different in the context of all the types of music in the world. The bands we're talking about are practically all male, from rich countries, and angry about something they can't quite put their finger on.

It would be silly to have 3 hardcore bands and one different style because its tokenistic and few folks would appreciate the different band. Having a few bands all of realtively different styles means folks into all types of MUSIC (not just hardcore) come along and see something new. If they do go upstairs because they think it is a band of a genre they don't think they like they probably aren't that into music in the first place. Punk was supposed to be about having an open mind, being independent, and doing what you believe in. This means punk is not just a type of music but a mindset that can inform loads of different styles. So its best not to write off bands because they aren't hardcore or punk. If one only listens to and plays one type of music to the letter then one isn't really taking on punk as anything more than an image and a shallow aesthetic.

That said jazz, hardcore, and hiphop on the one bill would be AMAZING, provided they were all GOOD.

"There's only one type of music i like and thats good music"

ok i suppose i wouldn't mind seeing a band of any genre if they were good. im just going on my past experiences of gigs like that. I have thought half the bands were guff and most the people only stayed for the bands they were there to see.. a few spring to mind but lets not bother going into it
