CALLING ALL PROMOTERS OF THE UK!! plzzzz look!

PROMOTERS OF THE UK!

I AM NOW BOOKING MY MOST EXCITING TOUR OF 2005!

Featuring: BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED (female fronted hardcore from London, England)
+ SKATCH (3 piece pop punk with brass, from Birmingham, England)

All for a minimal guaranteed price of £80 for both of the bands!

This is currently a 14+ date UK tour in July/August, in association with the London based label CryBaby Promotions, to promote the release of both bands *NEW* cd's.

I am currently looking for dates in towns/cities from the midlands up of England, as the first week is more North England based and the second South.
but will also accept offers from southern promoters so please don’t hesitate to ask

The dates I’m looking for slots are: -
Saturday July 23rd – Sunday July 31st 2005

Music + more info on the bands can be found at :-

Skatch -
www.skatch.co.uk
www.myspace.com/skatch

Batteries Not Included -
www.myspace.com/bni

Costs -
We're asking for £80 per show as this is the minimum fee we could reach to cover just transport costs for both bands.
All we ask on top of this is that the bands can sell their merchandise at the events. If you would like to book us for slightly less then we may be able to reach an agreement if you will also provide a rider for 9 people.
We're trying to book well in advance so we can promote the tour in good time.
Please get in touch if you have any queries or want to book a show.
Contact details are below, look forward to hearing from you

E-mail - skatchpads@hotmail.com

Mobile Phone - 07903 916 502

I realise it's well in advance - but if any promoters want a date then tell me and I'll be in touch to confirm it. You don't have to book the venues yet. Just pencil it in.

Thank you very much for your time

Lewis Felstead

opinions are of course welcome, but does anyone have a helpful and perhaps more welcoming reply?

I'd like to help out here but i dont have time to put on gigs any more, perhaps someone else on the site might be able to help out.

he wasnt helpful or welcoming to me

and i think this reply was slightly helpful... this guy really is taking the mickey a little bit... its not as if these bands are household names in the hardcore scene or otherwise so its completely unreasonable therefore to ask for lots of money and for riders when its going to be near on impossible to pull in a sizeable crowd for this gig...

with riders for 9 people and £80 per band youre talking about handing over £250 per show for these bands.. and thes people do sound like liberty takers and would perhaps even take more out of their riders....

really KJ... these people need to know that they are being unreasonable

Welcome to the world of promoting!
50-80quid is pretty standard even for a relatively small band from England.

Basically 40quid for both bands. Say there's an average of 4 people per band...that's a tenner each for travelling all the way up here to play a gig.

Bollocks.

You need to be harder with bands. If they aren't going to pull anyone then don't guarantee them anything.

I used to tell people they could have 90%-100% of the door taking but wouldn't give a guarantee (I would also put the bands up so that helped their costs a little). I mostly dealt with bands that weren't pretending to be rockstars though so it was a lot easier.

I would NEVER guarantee a band £80 in Dundee unless I knew for an absolute fact they could sell out the Reading Rooms.

I think thats where alot of promoters fuck up, it's not the bands fault for not pulling a crowd, its the promoters for putting on a gig that no-ones interested in.

If you really like a touring band and want to put them on but you know no-ones going to show up, you stick them on with local bands that will pull a crowd.

If the promoter fucks up and there is not enough money to pay the touring band, he/she should pay the difference himself.

I think £80 is pretty reasonable for 2 bands personally, why should bands have to lose loads of money on tour because the majority of promoters are incompetent.

p.s. Not saying this guys bands any good or anything...

That seems a lot of cash like for what it is. If a band wants to play here so much why must they expect to have every penny of their trip paid for?
Any decent promoter is gonna cover their costs and give the rest of the money made on the door to the band, provide a place to kip out and some food.
"rider" - sorry to laugh but cmon.

yeah if you are putting the band up and feeding them they cant really complain if they don't get £80, how many promoters actually do though.

Well, they are hardcore/punk bands it says so I like to hope that most promoters would, but yeah I get ya.

Y'see, the thing is I *wasn't* a promoter and I always made this clear to bands. I feel that I am more a musician who puts on bands when they ask me to....and I would only do it if the band approached me directly, usually through someone who had recommended me to them.

I wasn't into putting gigs on for the money, I didn't make a penny out of most shows I put on (and lost quite a lot when Troika insisted on playing at the Westport Bar - that was the last time I paid out for a gig though).

I wasn't talking about making money so much, more the responsibility someone has if they decide to put on a touring band.

then again small bands should be doing their first gigs/tours on the basis of playing new places and getting heard. they should save up before a tour to have all the costs covered themselves and if they get any cash from shows it's something back on their investment. should go out expecting to get nothing and then get blown away by the generosity and friendliness of the people they hook up with.
