Saturday 19th March - Stinking Lizaveta, Hey Colossus + more
I hate announcing things before just about every detail is confirmed but since this show isn't too far away I thought I'd at least give people a heads up:
Saturday 19th March 2005 - somewhere in Glasgow! STINKING LIZAVETA Greek-Americans, Stinking Lizaveta, are of the all instrumental kind. Their music travels all over the place, a jazzy heavy rock sound with lots of mathy elements, insane improvisations, relentless rhythms and volumes of groove. They have the biggest sound of any instrumental trio I've ever heard; with amazing bottom feeding bass, mesmerizing grooves and crazy melvins-like experimental sounds. To call these guys "stoner" or "doom" just does not do them justice, although they rock some very deep grooves of these genres. In America they've been slugging it out for the past 10 years building a following playing with the likes of Fugazi, 9353, Shudder To Think and Avaik, and since playing Steve Albini's (who recorded their first album) day at ATP last year they're rightly gaining a bit of a cult following on these shores too. HEY COLOSSUS From South London, with members of Econoline, Stanton and Yeast. Rarely has a band been more appropriately-named than Hey Colossus. With an utterly crushing sound, like a fusion of Black Sabbath, Part Chimp, a whole lot of grindcore. Imagine a truckload of distortion pedals thrown down a cliff onto a mountain of anvils, just to see how much noise it'll make. They're the aural equivalent of a hefty wrench to the back of the head and with this show forming part of their singers Stag weekend, they're likely to be more crazy than ever. Support is not confirmed at the moment, although it's likely to come from Macrocosmica. Venue should be confirmed in the next day or 2, so I'll post back here with more details. Like I said, I hate posting half confirmed details, but this show will go ahead even if it ends up being a house show at WATK towers! Stinking Lizaveta are fast becoming the most played band in our household. |
