Relapse at The Arches present Driverdown and Stoney
Driverdown in association with Dicelines present:
RELAPSE @ THE ARCHES Featuring Driverdown, Stoney, Satellite Dub, Bob Cuba, The Mode Plus the RELAPSE DJs ‘til late Thursday 11th August 2005 Doors 8pm (until late) - £6 – Over 18s Only The launch night of the RELAPSE gig and club night at the Arches features hosts DRIVERDOWN – fresh from an 8 date summer tour and building up to the download single release of Sneak through V2 (Stereophonics / Bloc Party). Their riff based rock fused with trip-hop vibes brings descriptions of “trip-rock sensations” (The Fly) and “sexy, grinding music – ambitious, intelligent and emotionally affecting” (Daily Record). Joining Driverdown, are Sheffield based STONEY, who first grabbed attention north of the border when they supported Arctic Monkeys in Glasgow and Edinburgh back at the end of May. Stoney have since released the highly acclaimed single 'Soap in a Bathtub' through Oxford based independent label Transistor. Described as 'rather a fine attempt of Beck doing an Athlete cover' by The Fly, the single was playlisted at XFM, was 'Single of the Week' on BBC 6 Music's Breakfast Show, and the B-side 'Bring Your Cup' was Dermot O'Leary's 'New Favourite Tune' on Radio 2. As well as the high profile support slots for Arctic Monkeys, Stoney recently played Glastonbury's 'Late n' Live' stage alongside The Subways, Fear of Music and Blackbud. Another single and an album is soon to follow, with more live dates in the pipeline too... we’ll leave the final word on Stoney to the Sunday Times: “a songwriter to keep a beady eye on - weird enough to be hip, commercial enough to be huge…” Since January 2004, Satellite Dub has been carving out a solid reputation as both a highly talented musician / producer and as a mesmerising live performer. By playing in venues such as The Arches, Stereo and QMU in Glasgow, nights like Diggin' Deeper and T-Break in Edinburgh and taking part in a recent Is This Music? live night in Dunfermline which was recorded for Radio Magnetic, Satellite Dub has left audiences reeling from the sonic and rhythmic assault on their senses. As Radio 1’s Rob Da Bank puts it - "Imagine King Tubby driving a 34 foot bassbin through your house into your fishpond and you can imagine the breakbeat sound of North Lanarkshire according to Craig Brown" Ayrshire based 3-piece Bob Cuba, described by the Daily Record as a mish-mash of Nineties Stone Roses thythms and Eighties new wave rock - think Charlatans and Soup Dragons with Orange Juice savvy and lyrics that are more rapped than sung” and Glasgow’s The Mode. Following the bands will be the Relapse DJs playing the finest in indie, soul and funky ass beats… and already lined up for the next Relapse night @ The Arches on September 8th are Amber Souls – hedonistic indie madness from Newcastle’s masters of guitar based dance. |
