Pay to play gigs

I'm not doing one i just want your views on pay to play gigs in the local area to show a friend.

they're evil!

they're done on the premise that the promoter is doing you a favour by giving you the gig in their prestigous venue, or on a gig by their prestigious promotions company. in fact you'll be playing to your mates, the other bands mates who dont care about you. you might get £20 at the end, if you're lucky, whilst the promoter runs off as mr moneybags with loadsa cash.

in short you're better playing gigs in smaller venues to a more interested crowd with like minded bands.

pay to play gigs are a ridiculous, ridiculous concept. Promoters are NEVER doing you a favour by giving you a show, you are working for THEM and therefore YOU should get paid, or do it for free as a favour to the promoter and you get paid by exposure. You should never pay a promoter. No matter how young you are, there is always someone out there who will give you a gig thats not pay to play, so you shouldnt be taking pay to play gigs.

Sometimes pay to play's are offered in return for slots with prestigious touring bands... this basically means the promoter is exploiting you and using you as a way of drawing more people so he makes more cash.

but bands who moan about getting ripped off at pay to plays deserve to be kicked in the teeth... if youre going to accept a gig like this, dont complain about it, idiots...

pay to play is for dingie idiots who don't know how anything works and I hate everyone involved and will persecute them through the internet should they introduce pay to play to Dundee

Shit idea I say.If you want a band they're really doing you a favour especially if you make a profit from the gig.

the gig in question is 14th september at westport bar. anti virus are asking each band for £30 and are claiming I am being unfair by saying it does not say much for them and may make them look unprofessional. we pulled out btw.
