Electronic Music - Altres @ Mills Observatory, Dundee - 13th October

ALTRES are presenting an "Evening of Space Music" on the balcony of the Mills Observatory, Balgay Park Dundee on Thursday 13th October 2005 (weather permitting - if it's raining we're not doing it!).

We'll be playing two sets of mostly improvised music between 7.30 and 10pm. Come along - it's free!

Cheers Afro Joe and Chris. We're really hoping this works out - we're really looking forward to playing somewhere other than a pub. If nobody turns up, we'll just play to the trees.

The weather forecast doesn't look too promising, though. We'll see...

How did this go? Apart from being freezing cold, it looked like it was going to be a good night for it. I wish I could have gone, but maybe something similar could happen again soon.

Review

Here are parts of a review taken from the MGCK website.

http://www.mgck.co.uk/unoffishal_site.htm

Experimental Space: Beam me OUT THERE Scotty! Last night ALTRES @ The Mills Observatory, Balgay Hill, Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom, Planet Earth, Milky Way. This event was the ULTIMATE tribute to John Peel: A band of musicians playing on the balcony of the Mills Observatory on the highest hill in Dundee, under a swelling moon and stars; transmitting galaxy wide.

What a night. What a venue. Following the 'Thistle' marked signs for 'Observatory' was like a treasure hunt. Driving up the leaf covered tree sheltered lane... climbing upward on the winding mystery road; coming out at the summit to a full blast of psychaedelic spaced rock. In the dark at the foot of the sandstone observatory and scattered in groups around the park, an audience of unknown number were standing, seated, children playing: all eyes skyward checking out the universe and the ALTRES light show reflected on the dome of the Observatory and surrounding trees. Nothing prepares you for a new sensation; the combined aural experience with the incredible flipping VIEW; SPEC-TAC-U-LAR. The moonlight and stars, bouncing their gazillion beams all the way down the hill across the Tay and beyond. A perfect night.

The wonderful thing about ALTRES: they ARE out there.. genuinely out there and seeking to go further. If only all gigs were like this.
