they stopped putting on bands on a Thursday for some reason, but we managed to get a gig there a couple of months ago as I knew nick. They may still be putting on the odd gig, but you have to pay the sound guy about 200 quid out of the takings so its basically leaves you with enough for some chips n cheese. they dont need money up front tho, just as long as you get folk in the door on the night.

a gig in the westie with the sort of pa most people can acuire for free/cheap would be shit. i have a 400w vocal PA and wouldnt even consider using it.

Best to pay the £85. if you charge £3 or £4, u only need like 30 people to break even.

we have our own sound engineer with a 600 watt PA and a 400 watt PA soon to be aquired. thats MORE than enough to mic up everything and kick out the jams!

westie's house PA is shite, they always crank it too loud so you end up with mush and it sounds pish! also if your using their PA you have to use their sound guy i.e. you lose control over the sound.

when i booked the westie for a thursday night there was no mention of a minimum turn out. the hall (and PA if you wish) isnt secured til you pay up so they'r already gettin your cash regardles of turn out if your deffinatly puttin the gig on! however, sarah will phone you about a week in advance to get an estimate of how many people you think will come down so she can arrange bar staff accordingly. other than that, if your putting on the gig (not the westie) its up to your publicity skills to pull in an audience and break even, or even make a profit!
