Thomas Truax returns to Lancaster (Feedback)
Feedback Thursday 1st December The Yorkshire House Lancaster 8pm to 11pm £3.50 (£3 AMS members) THOMAS TRUAX Returning to Lancaster by popular demand, Thomas Truax is probably one of the five or ten best singer/songwriters in the world that you've never heard of. Based in NYC, he hails from the same fertile camp as Jeffrey Lewis and Kimya Dawson. He merges a fevered imagination, solid songwriting abilities and a groovy showbiz attitude with a mad penchant for weird gadgets. You get darkly witty songs accompanied by weird, home made instruments such as The Hornicator. He is an illegitimate son of Screamin' Jay Hawkins and a mad scientist of experimental music with a history as a stop-motion animator – he worked on MTV’s ‘Celebrity Deathmatch’. His carefully crafted songs range from dark, romantic lullabies to lively rock melodramas. Smart, beautiful, eccentric, exceptional -- if you missed him the first time, you simply must catch him at Feedback. If you saw him the first time, you’ll want to see him again!! MARTIN CHITTY This Scouse student has long been a favourite on the campus music scene performing at LULUMS events such the Open Mic nights and at Grad Bar. He’s since brought his own inimitable style and charisma to Feedback, recently producing a legendary performance with that other darling of the local music scene, Kr!ss Foster, with the ludicrously brilliant duet, ‘Dale Winton’. He recently played a great set at the utterly amazing Thomas Truax gig, earning glowing praise from the maestro himself! This is a guy with a wonderful voice and great songs. ONE CHIP POTATO Originally from Liverpool, One Chip Potato (aka Mike Kenny) now resides in Lancaster travelling round and playing random gigs with his guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and saucepan. Gigs usually contain strange amounts of improvisation with bizarre comments thrown in. OCP sounds like a crazy lunatic destroying a guitar whilst singing wild songs about clouds, robots, wooden huts, sunflower men, fish, the destruction of moles and humans, living in wide open spaces and ripping up carpet. Believe us, it’s all top-notch stuff. More info at www.feedbacklancaster.co.uk and www.myspace.com/feedbacklancaster |
