2006-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wednesday 11th – Wow, Owls! + Mesa Verde + Ultra Dolphins Wow, owls! From Richmond in the USA are latest golden children producing catchy rockin' emo/hc very much in the vein of stop it!! and light the fuse and run. Ultra dolphins from Philadelphia play smacked out racebannon style noisey screamo and fresh from their last support with the legendary Mono, Glasgow’s own Mesa Verde provide the soundtrack to the apocalypse. Dae it!! 9-1am Free Thursday 12th January – Stinking Lizaveta + Black Sun + Vom A great one for Bloc - Underground Legends Stinking Lizaveta from New York make instrumental passionate heavy riffage doom/jazz. If Don Cabellero and Saint Vitus give birth to a child in the hospital of St Steve Albini. Heavy downtuned sludge rock. They have also just been confirmed as support for Clutch on their UK tour, see them in little bloc for the ‘special’ experience. Black Sun from Glasgow - Think early Swans and Neurosis. Vom are like Throbbing Gristle meets the Birthday party at the annual Pessimist's Happy Ball. (ex members of Jesus Elephant God, Santo Caserio/Baskin/The Pact). 9-1am Free Tuesday 17th – Open Mic Session Open mic session open to all performers with our mantis-like host Craig Grant of Union of Knives. Free Beer for all brave enough. 9-1am Free Thursday 19th – ‘Ambulance Station’ feat: The Beat Trap + Dresden + The Sleepwalkers Glasgow regulars Pinup nights are expanding with a new club in Bloc called ‘Ambulance Station’ featuring the best in up and coming Glasgow talent. It’s very much an indie vibe with live bands and great DJ’s. 9-1am Free Monday 23rd – Sometree + Kate Mosh + No Kilter All the way from Germany. Sometree make post hardcore/indie, but in a very nice way. Kate Mosh are a bit madder, more electro-industrial-ish, and they’ve toured with Glasgows own aereogramme. No Kilter are the best new Scottish band, super technical mathcore meets at the drive in. Big things should definetly come. 9-1am Free Tuesday 24th – Geoff Martyn Glasgow institution Geoff Martyn of Jupiter and Teardrop and formerly Travis plays solo with a guitar or keys. Geoff always demands your attention wether you like it or not, one of the only times you’ll hear bloc so silent. 9-1am Free Wednesday 25th – Beerjacket Album Launch with Cold Night Song and very special guests. Our favourite boy Peter Kelly launches his new Album ‘Accident History’. One of the most beautiful voices and guitar styles you’ll hear. Beerjacket had a great 2005 that saw him play with the likes of Rilo kiley, Tom Vek, Arab Strap and American Music Club. It’s a crime for him to be this good but we are very glad to have him in Bloc. 9-1am Free Thursday 26th – Spiggot Records Showcase An amazing wee label with some great lo-fi bands like Small Town Boredom on their roster. Tonight should see a nice collection of their best bands. 9-1am Free Monday 30th – Glasvegas The one and only Glasvegas. No one else mixes 50’s style Americana/rockabilly with Glaswegian patter, that’s why you should definetly check them out. 9-1am Free Tuesday 31st – Gallusbilly! All the best in punk, rock n roll, psychobilly etc.. with live bands on the night and DJ’s Jeremy and Jason. 9-1am Free Wednesday 1st – Ali Moodie Ali Moodie has been plugging away at it for years just trying to be satisfied, now he looks to be set on a set which is currently getting recorded. His style is very melancholy and his vocals are very much like that of the late Jeff Buckley without a lot of the falsetto. Very nice indeed. 9-1am Free Monday 6th – On This Day We Met Gambus Pil Pil An eclectic student band from Glasgow. 9-1am Free Tuesday 7th February – Mos Eisley Chaotic and unpredictable, the mos eisley travel up from England for a wee one off show. Check them out on www.myspace.com/themoseisley 9-1am Free Wednesday 8th – Jeniferever + Beerjacket Swedens Jeniferever make a stop in Bloc on their European Tour. Rock Sounds ones to watch of 2006. Jeniferever make ambient beautiful soundscapes with delicate vocals and haunting strings. We doubt you’ll see them in a small venue like Bloc again as they look set to soar. Support comes from the wonderful beerjacket. 9-1am Free Thursday 9th – ‘Ambulance Station’ feat: Juno! + KOBA + Immersed Glasgow regulars Pinup nights are expanding with a new club in Bloc called ‘Ambulance Station’ featuring the best in up and coming Glasgow talent. It’s very much an indie vibe with live bands and great DJ’s. 9-1am Free Monday 13th – Take A Worm For A Walk Week As crazy as you can get really, TAWFAWW make some of the most intense music out. Songs hardly ever break the 1 minute barrier. Fast, chaotic and intense are a few of the words used to describe these guys. 9-1am Free Tuesday 14th – Free Diamonds + We Are The Physics Free Diamonds from Newcastle are on Deep Elm Records and are bloody awesome. They’re a 3 piece with a totally unusual style, in vocals, bass and guitar. Truly unique. They are touring Europe and the states this year and hope to be onto bigger and better things soon. Also, they’re banter is brilliant. Support from We Are The Physics who have recently shared stages with Help! She Cant Swim and are booked for an amazing support with The Paperchase! 9-1am Free Wednesday 15th – Transaudio Transaudio have a very slick sound. Mixing indie rock and electronica to a mass of good reviews recently. 9-1am Free Monday 20th – Lukestar + Deathofafilmstar Lukestar is a norwegian band based in Oslo playing powerful and extremely energetic and emotional rock. They are one of those bands that were always ‘big in Norway!’ but the last year or so has seen them break out of that. The album Alpine Unit was produced by JR Ewing and they were featured on Deep Elms famous Emo Diaries compilation. Support comes from Liverpool’s deathofafilmstar. 9-1am Free Thursday 23rd – Gallusbilly! All the best in punk, rock n roll, psychobilly etc.. with live bands on the night and DJ’s Jeremy and Jason. 9-1am Free |
