Paper Cut Out, Avast!, Lords of Bastard, Spacial Entrepreneurs: Fri 17/02 in Edin
Cold Dead Hands Present:
Paper Cut Out (Newcastle) "With the same urgency of early Fugazi or Nation Of Ulysses, the rhythmic thrust of Sweep The Leg Johnny and the tightly controlled chaos of a free jazz combo of their faces on something nasty, over the course of two short sharp electric shocks Newcastle's Paper Cut Out stake their claim as one of the most exciting new bands in the post hardcore/punk underworld." Ben Myers - Kerrang Magazine (KKKKK) And in case like us you sometimes find Kerrching! to be not entirely consistent, independent verification from a second source: “As disconcerting and confrontational as they appear, they chew and regurgitate dirty, fetid noise that’s near unintelligible but strangely captivating. Feverishly unwell and rabid, Paper Cut Out may be quite sick but their sound is far from ugly. In fact, a closer inspection reveals a whole set of discernable riffs steroid-boosted by even sicker dynamics and noise. Paper Cut Out are the undisputed kings of a twisted din that’d give The Jesus Lizard or even The Ex-Models a serious arm-wrestle." -Manchester Music Website http://www.jacksofall.com/papercutout/ Avast! (Dundee) Featuring two members (former members? I can never keep track) of Glasgow post-emo perennials Stapleton, Avast! Employ a slightly more hectic style, calling to mind the likes of SpyvsSpy and Cap’nJazz. Forceful yet melodic and like all the best trio’s, tighter than a fashion core kids jeans. They’ve already got out and done a fair bit of touring around, this will be their 2nd visit to Edinburgh and their first apperanec for CDH. Their debut EP is due to be released on Gravity Dip Records. www.gravitydip.com www.myspace.com/avastuk Lords of Bastard (Edinburgh) They say it so much better than I could…… “A ghastly Edinburgh based stoner-rock-pirate-space-gang Bangor and Berwick... shipwrecked in Edinburgh on the way to the shops. Turned out to be pretty bloody good in Edinburgh so the bastards stayed.... Vowed to seek treasure, make noise and kill Bono“. http://www.myspace.com/lordsofbastard Spacial Entrepreneurs (Edinburgh) It’s suprising how much noise two people can make. Just ask godheadsilo or Lightning bolt. The Spacial’s (to give them their pleasingly abbreviated name) understand that just because you didn’t find a decent bass player (and lets face it most of them are frustrated guitarists who couldn’t handle the extra two strings) there’s no reason you can’t hit the local scene and churn out alarmingly riffy rock-outs for the general publics enjoyment. www.thespacials.com @Subway Cowgate Fri 17th Feb Doors 7.30pm, £5 |
