Today’s discerning music fan is harder to please than ever. People no longer follow one scene or style of music. Lines are blurred between tastes and influences as more people delve into the musical unknown and come up more satisfied than ever. Throughout 2006 the team behind DBLSPK have built up a reputation for putting on some of the best parties on the Glasgow gig and club scene. Spanning many genres DBLSPK are well known in their home city for their events featuring the cream of the international music scene as well as many of the most gifted yet hardly heard up and coming artists. With the dawn of the New Year DBLSPK have decided to spread their wings and Friday the 12th of January sees them land with a bang and a monthly residency at brand spanking new Dundee night club Flash Flash.

Mweslee is all set to bring some unheard heat to the DBSLSPK stage. This Spanish Wunderkid fuses a b-boy approach with experimental grooves and off beat instrumentals, just the sort of leftfield production and evolved beats favoured by the likes of Prefuse 73, Dabrye and Jay Dee. Mweslee is all about warped sampling and low-slung grooves, with a predilection for crunchy, clicky, instrumental hip hop, and an energy that makes his sound perfect for the dance floor. In the past Mweslee has featured on the highly prestigious Red Bull Music Academy tour, which has also included such artists as Amp Fiddler, DJ Babu of the Beat Junkies and Dilated Peoples, Cut Chemist of Jurassic 5 and Madlib amongst others. If Mweslee’s recent appearance on Jay Scarlett & Cianamman’s Beat Dimensions compilation are anything to go by then Mweslee’s live ‘beatstrumentals’ are sure to provide a treat for the DBLSPK faithful and newcomers alike.

Also blessing us is a Doublespeak favourite Glasgow’s very own Zorfax. Having already wowed us at one of Doublespeak’s MacSorley’s gigs we’ve invited the man-machine back to perform at the new DBLSPK club night in brand new Dundee club Flash Flash. Expect computer rock, techy tech drums and amazing electronica from one of the cities most talented new producers.


Alongside him will be DBLSPK resident Hudson Mohawk. Combining blistering turntable skills (he was a DMC finalist at just 15) and amazing production with cutting edge musical selection makes him perfect as the DBLSPK in-house DJ. Off the back of reaching #2 in the Japanese hip hop charts under his Heralds of Change moniker as well as touring Europe, amongst this residency is a further stone to step on the road to success for one of the most talented young artists in the country.
