Very Very excited about this event, don't know much about Michael Gira apart from the Swans connection, but caught Boredoms @ Instal Festival about 4years ago. They played one of the most amazing live sets I have ever
seen. |

This for the folk not going to Maxi's excellent night in Dundee
From The Guardian Newspaper GUIDE Sat 25th Aug 07 LISTINGS of, FILM, MUSIC, CLUBS, THEATRE, EXHIBTIONS, COMEDY, DANCE & FAMILY NO 1 listing for all the above genres of the Arts *BOOK NOW...Having celebrated their their 20th anniversary last month, with a Brooklyn performance featuring 77Drummers, Japanoise avant garde band the Boredoms bring their unique brand of experimental sounds to the UK: Academy Manchester 22/10.......... The Arches Glasgow 23/10........... Lemon Tree Aberdeen 24/10......... Shoreditch Town Hall London EC1 26/10...... Barfly Birmingham 27/10........ The Point Cardiff 30/10........... Their London performance with Michael Gira is to celebrate 25years of THE WIRE magazine. It also so happens that the Boredoms & Michael Gira are the 1st two names listed in this months WIRE listing & advert for their esteemed celebrations. This kinda shows the credo of The Boredoms & Michael Gira coming to play Aberdeen. Support the cause, pass the word, future ecelectic events of this stature can only happen in Aberdeen, if there's decent support for this one. Perhaps some of you who travelled up from the Dundee/Perth area for Faust, Lightning Bolt etc etc will be interested in this....... |

& here is some more info:- A first for Aberdeen: Japanese powerhouse the Boredoms play. For over 14 years, the Boredoms have been pummelling the minds and ears of unsuspecting listeners with their blend of noise and psychedelia and they’ve achieved a certain cult status amongst an international audience on the basis of their prolific record releases and near-legendary gigs. Having been championed by Nirvana and Sonic Youth amongst many others, the Boredoms were originally grouped with the emerging No Wave Japanese noise artists of the late 1980s and early ‘90s, but have now moved toward more interesting and melodic musical territory in recent years, maintaining a delicate balance between precise time changes and complex instrumentation while keeping a loose and improvised feel. However for many the allure of the Boredoms lies not in their recorded music but in the perfect spectacle of their live performances, which manage to transcend genres and people’s personal music taste and have wowed audiences the world over. Their live show consists of a singer and three drummers (one of whom, Yoshimi, is the very same Yoshimi immortalised by the Flaming Lips), borders on performance art and is genuinely, astonishingly good as well as being insanely good fun. The performance will be filmed and projected from onstage. “I’ve not seen a better live band these past few years; phantasmagorically brilliant” Uncut magazine “A beautiful, rhythmic gallop of harmonic singing, freeform piano, chaotic harp and some of the most insane drumming you will ever hear in your life.” Billboard “On occasion, when asked, I’ve been known to tell people Boredoms are the best rock band ever." on the night. It would be fantastic to think Boredoms/Gira would sell-out the LT but that won't happen, although advance ticket sales are doing very well If you can, try make a special effort on this one.....Boredoms were wonderful on their only other visit to Scotland @ INSTAL 03. |
