popolo were great, the sound seems more don-cab/battles esque than last time I seen em (thats without the dull, boring widdlefests) but thats maybe just the guitar sounds/techniques. Love the rythmn section, really interesting and tight. Bass was a wee bit quiet, but still audible. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Juliet Kilo were great, a much more raw, "beefy" and agressive affair than previous sightings. The new tunes are great; very tight and they feature some cracking guitar work from both interlinking to create real, thick melody. Vocals a wee bit loud and Ross amp was making a funny grinding noise, nothing a bit of TC electronics can't sort. A pleasure. Sugartown Cabaret were decent. Kinda like life at these speeds mixed with funeral diner/mesa verde, a punky emo sound. Sadly the afoementioned bands play with real conviction, whereas these guys seemed to lack that "emotion" factor. Decent though. No Kilter were marginally better than last time I seen em, but thought they were a bit dull. Absolutely piercing trebly guitars did fuck all for any dynamic they may have had, the singing drummer had tempo problems and the songs seemed to be bad cover versions of their favourite bands. They seem to be doing well, so good luck to em. Not very good. |

Really enjoyed Popolo and though Juliet Kilo were great but didn't think much of Sugartown Cabaret. Missed No Kilter due to work commitments. Guid night overall.

Popolo sounded incredible last night, proper good tunes, definately brought a smile to my face.
All in all I thought it was all rather good, but I got a bit bored by No Kilter. It could've been that I was getting a bit sleepy, but I reckon something with enough oomph could've kept me more alert. xo. |
