Reaper
I found out about this software on another forum. It's recording/editing software created by the guy who made Winamp. I initially downloaded an earlier release of this a few months back and wasn't impressed, but it's come on leaps and bounds since then, and the updates are very regular.
Runs better on my PC than say Cubase or Nuendo. I don't think you can go far wrong with this at all, especially if you're on a really tight budget (it's limitless, free software, with the option to buy a license if you so wish). On the downside, some people have had problems with getting certain VST plug-ins to co-operate, but I imagine this will be ironed out with later releases; I haven't had any problems so far. I tried it for a while but was annoyed at not being able to easily find the recorded audio files (so that I could do some deep editing in other software). That might very well just be a Mac issue though, as it's still at beta on here.
I ended up buying Ableton Live this month after my cracked version got discovered (lasted 9 months though, must be some kind of record!). Still the very best recording software IMO - also, running on my Core 2 Duo MacBook with 2gbs of RAM, the processor barely hits 5% usage even when processing crazy amounts of VSTs and midi instruments. |

Ah sorry Alex, I hadn't realised that you'd posted about this in another thread.
I think think this is pretty good, considering it's free. Is there a PC compatible version of Ableton? Or am I making that up? I'm just doing the rounds at a moment. |

Ableton is both PC and Mac native.
