Cool idea for recording vocals at home

Portable vocal booth - Hometracked

Not bad if your room isn't ideal.

I may make something similar to that . . . going to have a pile of spare ply and egg-box foam around after my speaker cab build.

Unless it is important to have a less rigid material for the box?

Hmm, so you simulate a supercardioid pattern by filtering out all the top end going to the back and sides. Why not just use a mic with a supercardioid pattern in the first place?

if you've got a bad room and you try and record at a distance using this thing you're still gonna pick up all the nasty reflections off the wall behind you in the front of the mic.

I reckon its probably better to build this thing out of soft materials, because a solid surface will probably cause other comb filtering problems.

One tip for recording in a bad room that i've found to work very well is to tape omni's to the floor. That way you half the amount of comb filtering because you're only getting reflections hitting the mic from one direction.
