I don't think guitar rigs anything to be sniffed at at all like, I'm pretty happy wi the sounds I get out of it. It's perfectly acceptable for the standard of recording *most* ppl on this forum will be at (budget/consumer).
Plus it's piss easy to set up eh? Yeah I'd def vouch for that option for those just starting out. |

I just use Guitar Rig, because I've used it before, and I managed to find a cheap version of the rig control version online. I can get some pretty decent sounds out of it too, for what I'm looking for. It's also really cool to be able to record a guitar part, and then decide later that I want to use a completely different guitar sound for that part. Think I'm gonna go for the motu 8pre and either cubase essential or studio. From reading some of the manuals it looks like you get very little control over your input channels regarding inserting dynamics, metering etc unless using full cubase. It seems to rely more on your hardware. Can anyone confirm this one way or the other from personal experience?

music software
In case anyone is interested, there's an offer for cheap guitar software which has music notation built into it over at Software4Students UK Buy Guitar Software with Audio Editing & Audio Recording features
I recently tried out copies of Progression, Protégé and Notion 2.0 - along with Cubase which I got with a preamp in Rainbow (cheers Stef!). I've also been using Audacity (which is a great free program) but figured I could do with picking up a few other apps. Maybe Alex or someone could do an article on home recording software for the UGS site...? |
