PS2 vs GC vs XBOX price war

with the recent (usual Autumn) price slashing of the consoles the console market seems to have hotted up with the Cube outselling the PS2 (weekly sales not total sales) with both of them having been drastically reduced.

Cube seems to be fizzling out with hardly any games in stores and Nintendo being stupid (not releasing Animal Crossing for example), but with a huge list of games coming out in next three months and an 80quid price tag can it overtake the XBOX for the number two spot?

Will XBOX be slashed to price match the other consoles?

Will there be yet another price drop by PS2 if it continues to lag behind Cube in weekly sales?

current console prices:
PS2 Black: 139.99, Silver 149.99
XBOX: 149.99
GameCube: 79.99

not to mention the handhelds with GBA/SP now having competition from Nokias Ngage (PS1 standard graphics) and soon to be NG32(can bung on emulators etc of anything up to I think PS1/Dreamcast etc)

yea i never red the whole thing but im gonna say ps2 is better than the others cause its old skool and is keeping it real,plus its easyer 2 work

i think, with pro evo 3 coming out soon (over a million pre-orders so far), ps2 will beat everybody over the christmas period. mario kart should help shift a fair few gamecubes though.

I just bought my Xbox a week and a bit ago and I'm gonna have to go for the Xbox to win. Although the PS2 probably will. The Xbox feels like more of a proper console and it takes me back to the master system and nes days when everyone hated gamers 'cos they were all pale and boring. The PS2 is still damn good but it feels like there's a load of shit games masking the good ones.
And the Gamecube is gonna be the new dreamcast methinks.

ps isnt much better- i have one and it just seems to eb trying to emulate the pc wioth no good effect.

xbox when champ man the new one comes out and they get better sized controlers this will walk it. the controlers are just to big for my fickle hands

Xbox is slightly more cutting edge, but PS2 have the reputation and the marketing strategy- i think they'll walk it

Xbox doesn't have even the tiniest hope of beating PS2, this year or any year.

They've got new sized controllers, they're smaller and the buttons are placed better, i got one with my xbox when i bought it. I dunno if you can buy them yet though 'cos I haven't see any in shops, apart from the wireless version but that cost £35!

Half Life 2 is only coming to PC and Xbox and it'll be totally ace on xbox live as there wont be any ping times or lag.

I'm not bothered who wins the war though as long as I have a decent console to play.

I reckon the PS2 has far too much of a head start for the Xbox to become number 1, even if the Xbox is the superior machine. It came out too late, and was too expensive on launch, and didn't have enough quality launch titles to get a foothold against the PS2. It will be interesting to see how the Xbox2 vs PS3 race goes though.

It's a shame about the Gamecube if it really is going the way of the Dreamcast. Japanese consoles always come out with the most wacked out, but original game ideas. I think Japanese game designers must take hallucinogenic drugs before coming up with game ideas

i doubt there's much chance of the gamecube dying out, considering it's sold more than xbox worldwide...xbox has failed in japan as much as the gamecube has failed in europe...

Nintendo have halted production on the gamecube until January as they have a huge back log of them. I reckon this price hike will see the GC come good.

I agree with Bry, for bizarre and interesting games Nintendo have it. There is also an exclusive version of Final Fantasy for the GC wgich looks immense.

Yeah but the dreamcast is still alive in Japan, so that doesn't really say much. I'd rather fail in Japan only, than fail in Europe and America.

I really hope that the Gamecube doesn't die out. I'm not a fan of Nintendo, but I think that like Sega, they bring a lot more variety and originality to the console market, and it would be a much more dull place without them. Nintendo seem to be more willing to take risks on new game ideas and concepts than MS or Sony, which is something the games industry really needs in this day and age of fps and rts clones .
