Championship Manager Vs Football Manager
Gonna be an exciting time for desktop footy managers with both CM and FM on the way.
Quite a while back SI Games (Cham Manager developers up untill the current 03/04 game) and EIDOS, CM's publisher, split citing "differences." SI got the code to the game and the vast database while EIDOS kept the name of the game. This means we should now have 2 huge titles on our way. Football Masters should be very similar to previous CM but the split has allowed SI a bit more flexibility and claim they are able to improve the game in new areas now. The game will be released by SEGA, who have the capital to provide a fantastic liscence so we can expect at least the old CM depth! The main problem for FM is of course awareness about it, as it is a new title even if its effectively CM. Championship Manager may now seem like a poor choice. EIDOS's new developers are going to have to develop a fantastic game that can keep up with the old games and of course FM. They too will also be looking to keep the series in a similar direction to the previous champ games. I sure can't wait for them! Howz about u lot? What you gonna be buying? |

I used to be a loyal follower of the CM series until it really went down hill. It got to the point where massive bug fixing patches were on the net before the game even came out. Being on a 56K i resented having to download a 30mb+ patch on the day of release to fix bugs, fair enough for game updates but thats taking the piss.
I'll go for whichever one manages to hammer down on game-ruining errors the most. |

I'm with Carlisle UTD battling for promotion to Div 1. Got Serge Makofo, Moukoko, Oskarsson, porhallsson, adam collin, pidgely and just a team of young potential stars!
IRL Carlisle have just been relegated to Conf. |

I love Champ Man, have done since season 97/98. I'm not happy about the SI/Eidos split, it totally sucks.
Just been playing CD 03/04 and it's incredibly tedious compared to previous games. Buying and selling players is more difficult, and chairmen and directors are stricter. Having said that though, Champ Man fucking rules, and is one of my top three games of all time, along with GoldenEye and Pacman. So I think I'll buy the 'football manager' game, even though it's got a shite name. |
