I have a nasty virus... please help.

Yeah so I've got this virus, it's annoying as hell. Sends itself to everyone on my MSN list, so I can't go on MSN for fear of infecting everyone.

The worst part is, the virus thwarts every attempt I make at removing it. It shuts down my virus scanners as soon as I open them, has disabled my system restore, and i can't even CTRL+ALT+DELETE to close the process because it shuts down that too.

It's so clever, that whenever I log on to a website that might have info to help me, such as www.symantec.com, it closes down my browser. So basically, I'm fucked.

Anyone got any advice? Help? Tips?

Ta.

finally, success. I fixed it myself with some help. But it's a nasty bugger of a virus, seemingly it's pretty new.

If anyone gets anything that sounds like it, give me a shout and i'll see what i can do.

It was funny, after i made that original post it wouldn't let me view it. It also blocks you from going on sites such as sophos.com and kaspersky.com. Clever little cunt.

Did you get the name of the virus? How to remove it? Also, any idea how / where it got onto your system?

Alot of people have recieved a virus via msn recently (via the automatic message along the lines of "check this out *insert website/downloadable file*") people dont know they r sending this message and it contacts everyone. I managed to rid myself of it somehow quite easily with norton antivirus (god knows how it managed it) and switching off my pc in a scared frenzy when i realised i had a virus. But its a tricky bugger, i know alot of people who still have it in their system.

i dunno the name of it but the applications it installs are called msmbw and serbw.

It sends itself to everyone on your msn contact list as an MS Dos shortcut, with file names such as "crazy frog being killed by train" and "topless in miniskirt lol"

Once you've got it it thwarts every attempt to remove it, closing down your task manager, and as soon as you open virus software it shuts it down. The virus seems to log keystrokes and searches webpages you're on for phrases that might be used to delete it, for example it shut down my browser every time i tried to view the original post i made.

There's a method to remove it without damaging or needing to download anything, i'll type it up tomorrow and post it when i have time, and i'd urge everyone to print out the instructions because once you've got the virus you won't be able to view the post, i wouldn't think.
