127.0.0.1
127.0.0.1 That is the question?
What the hell is it, it seems to happen every now and then on my aol browser and internet explorer. Where no matter what site i go on it comes up connecting to: 127.0.0.1 and comes up 'page cannot be displayed' However when i restart AOL it seems to work fine again, just wondering fine. Any help appreciated. |

127.0.0.1 is an IP address that always resolves to your own computer. If you type ping 127.0.0.1, at the command prompt, then you're actually pinging your own machine. You can do the same thing if you type ping localhost, as localhost means the same thing as 127.0.0.1.
So, if you go in your web browser and try to connect to 127.0.0.1, it won't work unless you're running a web server on your PC. If you see 127.0.0.1 popping up, it's probably because some applications connect to 127.0.0.1, because they use networking to allow different parts of the application to communicate with each other. A good example of this is the game Quake2. Even if you play a single player game, the game still has a client and a server. Even though the client and server are on the same machine, the client uses networking to communicate with the server. In this case, it connects to 127.0.0.1. I don't know how this relates to your problem, but I've never used AOL, so I wouldn't know. Last edited by humndislocation : 13th June 2005 at 10:35 PM. |

If its the same reason my firewall fires up 127.0.0.1 alerts its becuase somethings using a loopback interface. its getting quite common for different app's to talk to each other in this way.
Could be happening if youve installed new software (even if you wouldnt think that it want to go online). |

It could possibly be soulseek, as it seems to be disconnecting loads and tries to connect to the internet whenever i open the program
I shall have a look into that and see if I can work it out, cheers for the help again though! |

this could be totally unrelated (and probably is, but i'm pretty useless with computers) but this means that my devices arent communicating right?

I've not that encountered that problem before. We'd probably just tell you to check firewall, uninstall the aol connectivity service from add/remove programs, do a quick restore from the aol system information in the sys tray and check your comp for spyware Hope that was of some help. thank you for calling AOL technical support, good bye ![]() |
