Internet Service Providers

I can't find my original thread to this, which I was going to add on to, so anyway I have another query which is confusing me, any help would be much appreciated

I currently have a DSL server, on choosing a new one do I have to have DSL again or can I choose a ADSL server?
What do these terms mean and what is the difference between them?

It's important as I need to change my ISP soon now!
The last thread I posted a while ago so I could do some research and think I know which one to choose, but I need to know about this first.

if i still worked at the same place as david and lyndsey (and rob i think) then i could help you, but i've forgotten everything.

everyone will tell you not to go to BT but everything except NTL goes through BT lines. ( i think there is another ISP that has its own lines)
