uTorrent

I'm using this, does anyone else use it for transferring important documents between collaborators? I'm having issues with speed. Any hints on how to speed up downloads and uploads? The client suggests port forwarding on the router to speed up the transfer rates, but I have no idea what that is or how to do it. Any help on this would be great.

Installed it this morning to have a look. I tried downloading a Harry potter torrent using uTorrent and nothing left it for 30 minutes, nothing.. Put the same torrent into BitComet and after 3.5 hours I'm 97% of a 4.5GB DVD rip done.

I find BitComet is really good.

i use bitlord, i like that you can choose which files within the torrent to keep and get rid of. i.e. only certain tracks of an album, or getting rid of the useless album covers/readme files. it's served me well for loads of stuff.
will try and check out those two programs you are talking about next time i'm home, don't wanna risk getting kicked out of uni by trying it here.

uTorrent is great once you set it up correctly.

KJ to sort your router, go to www.portforward.com they have step by steps for almost every major router. Another thing to do is make sure you have the latest uTorrent and enable 'packet encryption', this will speed things up if anyone you're connected to or your ISPs use packet shaping on BT.

cragdoo is an unknown quantity at this point
Azureus is such a resource hog, utorrent uses a fraction of that

utorrent also let's you specify which 'files' to download etc

only downside to utorrent is it doesn't have a similar feature to Azureus's 'Safepeer'

I can vouch for this, as a few weeks ago I set up all the ports and switched to a static IP and it's running beautifully. Overall download rates at almost 500k/bps on Telewest's bog standard service. Also Utorrent is the only one that doesn't render the rest of my computer unusable and require me to reboot every so often because it was such a drain on system resources. This was particularly annoying when leaving stuff overnight or for a few days to download and coming back and finding that everything's just ground to a halt, as was what often happened with ABC and some of the others I tried.

I like Utorrent's interface too, it's pretty clean.

uTorrent is good if you a leeching piece of crap

Azureus is the daddy for security, seeding configuration and also for running temporary private trackers.

Didn't take long to assign static IPs to the two laptops on my network, as well as the desktop! Like.. 5 minutes.. it was well worth it!

Thankfully we're not leechers Well, it depends on how you use the term, the generic term for those that download is leecher right?

I'll try and set up the static ips tonight and see if i can get it sorted.
