PC help`
bearing in mind I'm completely IT iliterate, this is my query. I'm looking for a desktop for the following things:
- running games (i.e World of Warcraft) - running high end sound programmes (i.e Cubase) - data storage (200GB+) - large scale image editing I'd prefer it to be able to do the above tasks comfortably, and it needs to be upgradable. I'd also like a flatscreen monitor of some description. where in Dundee can I get this built for me, and what is the least I can expect to pay? |

Dunno about prices, because I tend not to keep up with the prices of computer hardware, unless I'm thinking of buying something myself.
However, if you want a computer built, I'd highly recommend A&W computers in Gellatly street. They've got a good range of stuff, and their prices are very reasonable. |

A&W computers were a real pain in the ass to deal with when i was going around looking for stuff, and their customer service was far from the best. Thats my opinion from my past experience with them... your experience might prove to be different though.

i dont 3000 rpm do computers, they just sell media. There used to be a place in the Forum Center but i think they have moved now. AWD computers i think they were called. An alternative is to buy the components off the web and build it yourself. It's easier than it sounds and you'll save / learn a lot.
Other than that i don't know of anywhere that'll build you a machine in Dundee. There is a shop near the top of Perth Road that sells mods and stuff for desktop computers but i don't know if they build machines, worth a try though.

I'll fire up to the place on the Perth Road and see what they've got to say, i looked into the window before and they have some fucking sound mods. I'm going to get a tower with a hamster cage built in.

At the moment it only has 80GB of storage space but I can put in another 250GB Hard drive for £60. And it has no operating system on it. If you already have a computer with a retail version of XP, this is no problem. otherwise, it can be expensive. If you just want a non-transferable XP Home, that's £60. A transferable one is £170. A transferable upgrade version (ie if you have windows 98 retail or something already) is £80. If you're a student, you might be able to get it cheaper (or even free) through your uni. XP Professional's more expensive and really not worth it for a home user. I know it seems expensive but I'd recommend the £170 one because you can use it on any computer you ever buy (but only one at a time) - with the £60 one you would need a new copy of windows if you upgrade the motherboard. The other thing I'd point out is it has no DVD-writer at the moment (has a CD-RW/DVD combo - can read/write/rewrite CDs but only read DVDs). DVDRW can be added for £25. so basically it's: system as is: £400 add 250GB: £60 add DVDRW: £25 add Windows: £60-170 the system as it is: CPU: AthlonXP 2600+ Motherboard: Abit AN7 (onboard sound, network) Graphics Card: Radeon 9800XT Ram: 1GB Hard Drive: 80GB Optical Drive: CD-RW/DVD combo Power Supply: Tagan 360W "silent" Monitor: Viewsonic VP171s looks like this and this At the moment, the system is in Kirriemuir and I'm in Edinburgh. I'll be back and forth over the next month as I'm moving flat in Edinburgh. So would probably be able to deliver it to you for free. Last edited by Rebelius : 20th May 2006 at 09:12 AM. |
