.avi files?
What sort of media software do I need to run .avi files? I've had one or maybe two that have worked with Windows Media Player, and a few that only gave me sound on Windows Media Player, but the majority don't work at all, help would be much appreciated?

The problem is relating to the codecs installed on your computer.
Download the DivX bundle and that will restore the missing codecs. There are other options better than DivX but its google friendly If you still have problems use windows media player and get the error details (right click on the file when it displays orange) and it should tell you or give a link to info on the missing codec. Copy that into google and I'm sure you'll find any fiddly missing codecs. Oh an the best player is widely regarded as VLC Player. |

VLC seems to be the best around, but I was having problems seeking during playback with it on a particularly large mp4 file I had.
This problem did not occur with mplayer however. It's far less user-friendly though.
